[/li][/ul] "'If only, if only,' the woodpecker sighs, 'The bark on the trees was as soft as the skies'. As the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, he cries to the moon, 'If only, if only.'"
A young she-wolf sang to herself lightly, laying on the edge of her favorite rock by pond not more than a hop, skip, and a jump away from the rushing waters of the falls. Here she peaked just over the edge, one paw lightly tapping the water, just enough to make ripples on the surface in the starting evening cool. Fireflies danced above the water with a measure of blinking displays.
If Cougar had known the falls now belonged to Moonrunner's old pack she never would have entered. But now being almost of age, she could roam, and this is where she had came. The female loved this place, a place away from her small rouge gang where she could dream of a handsome male to take her away. Moonrunner was her pack, almost her mother, but she could not feel the love in a place that only wanted revenge on others.
What she wanted was to feel love. She was almost a year and she could already feel that deep teenage yearning for someone to be by herside. Not just a packmate, but someone special for her. The young female was beautiful enough, soon courters would come if they caught wind of such a pretty young female who didn't exactally love her pack. The she-wolf stared deeply into reflecting water, humming the small song she had learned not so long ago from Ellis.

| The Shapeshifter neared a brook a ways from Southern pack territory, but almost a year old, and rapidly shifting from his younger looks to an adult, Eyolf had a growing thirst for adventure. And while it could be dangerous for this already hot-blooded wolf, he was a child at heart and always would be. With his fangs permanently blunt and shorter than normal, and his ears always slight flopping at the tips and a delicate, 'cute' appearance in body, he would always appear youthful, no matter what age he would be. Even when his fur was graying over and his hearing might occasionally fail him. But for now, the beige wolf was happy to be himself, and explore.
I can't believe I finally got rid of Efron for a while and the others! I could never be this far if they were here! Nightlife and ladies here I come! Along with the arrival of adolescence of the brown eyed wolf was feeling interested in the opposite sex, if not intensely so. So when he caught the scent of a female, about his age it seemed, the young male was absently curious at the least. Closing in, wanting to meet the stranger with a pup's enthusiasm, as he still was technically, a pup, he heard the quiet hum of a song it seemed. He stopped and swayed to the delicate rhythm of the song for a few minutes. He felt entranced almost in the same way as he did when his sister Cheveyo sang. With milky brown eyes, the beige wolf considered spying out in bird form, but considered it cowardly. His mind would not quit telling him to approach, the rationale of his mind long gone. He didn't even care if he was near, or in the territory of his pack's enemy, Moonrunner. So approaching slowly, as not to startle, he made his way around a bush, and stepping in the shallow stream, and as the moonlight streamed in from above and illuminated the male, he bowed his head and stared at the female in front of him.
Uh... Duh... this is awkward...

Gaellis** The male's heart pushed its way into his throat. Cougar managed to run off. AGAIN. He swore, one day far from now, he would no longer have the ability to protect her from anything... Not that she really needed it, but the thoughts of outsiders that pushed into the edges of his mind ate at him. What if Brock discovered her lounging on the edge of the territory? She'd be ripped to pieces, easily by those sharp teeth.
Or worse, what if it was Thor tearing into her flesh!? He was fairly certain the four wolves could stop Brock, but he doubted even Moonrunner's ability to take down the Eastern Alpha. Speaking of... He hadn't scented the male recently. He began to wonder if mayhaps... he had ceased the ruthless patrols on the borders of the territory. No. Thor wasn't stupid.
He reached the edges of the forest, his muzzle raised to the smooth, winter air. The odor of a Southern Scent marking met is nostrils, but it was mixed with something familiar; Cougar.
That pup had strayed into enemy territory!
His lips rose slightly, and his head lowered. Didn't she know anything?
Another scent rose, and carefully, the wolf began to claw his way up a nearby ceder tree, to get a better view of the ground below. (He was possibly the best at climbing trees in the entire Northern Pack, of course. He never could understand just why the other wolves thought it strange he held such a talent...)
And so, peeking down, he was able to watch the entire exchange. He sensed no other wolves around, and he was certain that if he did, he would easily be able to snag Cougar up from the ground and whisk her away.
The navy swirls had finally worked their way over his haunches, and had begun the smooth transition onto his tail, and he was thankful for the extra camouflage. Even if his blonde fur stuck out against the green, the blue pattern made it slightly more confusing for the viewer to determine what exactly it was they were looking at.

[/li][/ul] The she-wolf did not jerk back. She did not try to run, nor call for her pack. If anything, the wolf wanted to run closer to the male, but that would be highly undignified. Instead she slowly lifted her head from its resting spot between her paws and stared back into the eyes of a male not from her pack. Cougar took only a second to study him; Creamy white fur, brown puppy eyes, a lean build like her own, and looking to be just a few months at most older, than herself. The smell of his fur was something she had became well acustomed to over the past year, the handsome male was deffinatly of Southern Pack origins.
To Cougar, this made him interesting though. He was of other pack, other blood, other lives. Something different from the looks of her fellow rouges, and herself, he had soft puppy-like features that he was obviously starting to grow slightly out of. The she-wolf herself, had only grown out of some of her pup features, and not yet into her larger paws. Cougar's lean body layed still on the stone as she took in her fellow wolf, hind legs layed out the side with the rest of her front body twisted to face forward- a paw still hanging over into the water where the fireflies danced in the intensified air.
Why he had been attracted to come closer was fairly obvious, males always tried to lead off other pack females. But Cougar decided to finish what she had started to and then she could bring up a little conversation. "'If only, if only,' the woodpecker sighs, 'The bark on the trees was as soft as the skies'. As the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, he cries to the moon, 'If only, if only.'" She sang it lightly and quietly, her voice echoing ever so slightly in the evening light. When looking to the male again she spoke a ever so quiet,"Hello"

| Not aware of a watcher from the trees, the near-yearling remained silent for a moment as the female responded to his presence and he composed his thoughts. His ever so slight floppy ears perked up subtly as he strained, even as a wolf, to catch the slight, whispered words of the song the she-wolf had hummed earlier. The beige wolf cocked his head to the right, wondering in curiosity if the song was held a personal meaning to the wolf. He no longer felt awkward in the other wolf's company, but not kindred at all. He heard the echo of a softly uttered greeting, making the fur on his back stand up on end. He turned his head towards the fading light on the horizon and his brown eyes reflected clarity then. Raising his head high, but not in any sort of superior or arrogant position, the male simply smiled, not daring to show his canines, and he said a little relieved, a little cautious, -"Hi,"
Whew, good thing she or I didn't panic there! Ha! Eyolf stood with a friendly stance, his tale wagging slightly, he maintained his impulsive and natural hyperactivity and schemes for favor of learned restraint. Only through his adopted pack had he managed to get a hold. It helped that he was always a little unsure of himself in these situations. But his confidence returned quickly and he couldn't help himself. Before anyone knew it, his eyes were shining with a friendly happiness and his teeth shone. Grinning ear to ear, the beige wolf jumped up slightly and his pelt stood flat. "Guess I should say sorry for comin' up on ya like that," - He apologized earnestly, a little embarrassed.
Err... ya... Ooh Firefly!

[/li][/ul] The male in front of Cougar seemed like less and less of a threat as the seconds before them went on. The she-wolf wagged her tail in friendly manner ever so lightly as the male spoke. If she had been aware of Ellis's presence, and if she hadn't been distracted by Eyolf, Cougar would never say hello to a stranger from the Southern Pack. But this male was her age, and seemed different than any wolf she had ever met, not frightened by another wolf's presence that was not pack, nor worried about being spotted in his white fur coat. Most non-rouge were after all.
Being raised with the rouges had done some good for Cougar, she had risen from the lowest ranking status in her original pack, to a toughened, almost-of-age female with the power and mind set for victory at any costs. But now, the tough female had been partially tamed by this puppy-eyed, white furred stranger. To the eyes of another wolf, they were total opposites in appearance, the dark, blue-eyed female and the light, brown eyed male. The yin-yang of the wolf world, unknowingly separated by only the Eston Stream. A smile came next, a light and new smile, with judging blue eyes looking at the male in front of her as she spoke, "It's ok, I just didn't expect to meet someone here. My name is..."
Hesitation clenched her throat for a second or so. Should she risk telling him her name? The rouges knew the names of every Southern member, and that certainly raised the chances of him hearing hers from his alpha. After all there were alot less rouges compared to his pack. Cougar was almost sure in her mind, that he had to have heard her name, "My name is Cougar." She had to be the only female in the valley named after the deadly big cat of the mountains, but the she-wolf kept a light smile on her face in all hope resting heavily on her shoulders.
The fireflies danced even clearer now, lighting up the surface of the stream, illuminating her as she slowly placed her front paw lightly in the water, and stepped forward. Looking down into the water she could clearly see her reflection as the tips of her bangs touched the water. Soon her other foot was in the water, followed by the rest of her, the stream was almost at a standstill and the water reached only was far as her stomach, and chest. Cougar's eyes now almost dared the male, standing only one or two feet away, to join her and her smile grew just a tad larger in the fire fly glow of the water.

| Eyolf barely heard the sapphire-eyed female accept his apology as he watched the light from nature's light bulbs illuminate the stream incredibly well, revealing . He tilted his head to one side with an innocent look on his face as he listened and watched. His eyes flashed as the hesitation, figuring it must be a risk to the female to tell him her name. And so he listened, prizing his lucky stars he caught the glorious little word that slipped out. Cougar. That was a name. The actual cat was a pretty powerful predator, heck, he morphed one once and got busted by Brock. Punishment? Heck ya, after scaring the wits out of Efron and some squirrel. He watched the dancing fireflies, their dance almost anticipated something. His face stretching into a bright, fang-filled smile, so deadly close to a smirk, he responded, -"Nice to meet you Cougar, meet the Lucky Wolf, Eyolf!" His name did truly mean Lucky Wolf, or, at least according to his memory it did.
Lucky as in meeting her! The tantalizing dare in front of him was suddenly revealed as the female stepped forward into the stream, and turned to look at him with a look that said it all. And if there was one true thing about the cream-coated wolf, he never backed down from a challenge. Ever. His chocolate brown eyes had a little smirk in them and his mouth was a toothy smile, almost if saying, You asked for it! Agilely, he chose a place which would make the least splash and he without another moment's hesitation, a small splash a few feet from the female echoed. It was small act, but daring, for if any of his packmates or her fellows were to hear it and find them, heck would break loose. Swimming with surprising skill (Fish and Otter morph helped with practice.) and he was a small distance from the female, treading water quietly. His mouth curved into a small smile, as if he was keeping a secret, and his chocolate eye winked at the dark furred female.

[/li][/ul] Splash. It was light, but in the quiet beneath the falls it sounded quite loud. But the flirty female in front of Eyolf, did not move, and despite her lack of perfect swimming skills she actually stepped away from the rock beneath her feet and swam forward ever so gracefully. The actual big cat would have never set foot in the water, but Cougar was more brave than that. To have been born as the runt of the little, and still failry lean now, she was awefuly coragous.
When she was five months she had started training for combat, and now could leathly take down a wolf, even bigger than herself if she was prompted too. But the she-wolf preffered to stay quiet, and combat was the least of her likes. Strength was what Cougar had been pushed to increase. Strength, power, and keeping her good looks intact for luring new suitors into the pack when she was fully of age. The young wolf did not enjoy the thought of leading off other males to dump them on their snouts before the mightly Moonruner though- and instead dreamed of her real knight.
Although she had gained some strength in the past few months of training, she had already had been built with most of her current muscle. Running was her further passision, and in her spare time she would run. Building muscles and clearing her mind, the pain iceing it over and making her true thoughts as clear as day. Where the drive to keep going came from after running to her limits, most of the pack was not sure, and nor was Cougar for that matter. But she loved it. All of this made her a quite powerful swimmer, with hardened muscles hiding beneath her silky fur and a pair of powerfull lungs lurking in her chest.
"'If only, if only,' the woodpecker sighs, 'The bark on the trees was as soft as the skies'. As the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, he cries to the moon, 'If only, if only.'"

| Watching as the lean, muscled Cougar came towards him Eyolf held an easy, charming confidence in his brown eyes. He himself was a lean, but sinewy male with some muscle to him. Constant sparring and other forms of rivalry with his brother ensured that. He would never be the strong, enormous type, but he was a very graceful wolf, with a handsome runner's build with an ounce of endurance to him. His chocolate eyes meeting the stunning blue of the other teenage wolf. He wasn't the sappy type, but as he just drifted in the water like a bird through air, he found he took to Cougar well. She seemed rather friendly, not like she was evil, even if she smelled like a Northerner. He remembered from months ago, when Moonrunner was still a Southerner, and even then something seemed off about that she-wolf. But Cougar was perfectly fine, to him at least.
Indeed, not crazy or boring... He drifted lazily in a circled almost around the still female, his eyes half-lidded, with a confident tone in them. The beige male brightened up and asked the female, -"So how's life where you live?" The male instantly inwardly cringed, why the heck had he asked that? He was asking so many things tonight, and not necessarily ones to be entirely open about. He didn't consider telling Cougar his life in the Southern pack a problem, didn't even cross his mind, for he thought of Cougar's own possible hesitation or even anger first.
Good job you door-knob!

[/li][/ul] The signs; Cougar had a way of reading a wolf without their words, and Eyolf had inwardly cringed after he had asked the question. She tried to 'play it cool' letting go of the question with a loosely worded answer she pulled from her sack of many,"Every pack has its problems." She could play it safe with that answer, not exactly giving away any clues to the Northerns habits or lifestyle below Moonrunner. For it was a interesting life style, filled with murder here and there, undignified manners, and luring away unhappy wolves. Yes, it was interesting to live within the North, but she wouldn't lead off this male. 'He is too.. too Innocent.' The word 'Innocent' was one of the first words that came to mind when he spoke. Moonrunner wouldn't train him- she'd eat him.
This male seemed sweeter than any she had met before, much more of a good-too-shoes than the murderers in her pack. His chocolate brown eyes were opposite of hers, and seemed ten times more attractive in the firefly light than they had before. Cougar stayed lower, closer, to the water now; it was warming in the creek, the water flowing from the geysers and the boiling spring to come here. This place seemed almost too nice here, with a attractive male in front of her, warm water, and a fully belly. But suddenly all this sureness seemed to throw her off her cool confindence; why did everything have to be so set in stone?

| Yellow lights twinkling on and off, on and off from the majesty of the firefly glow, the water warming from the geysers, the male nearly sighed with relief as Cougar took the somewhat intrusion-like question with grace. A bright grin alighted his face suddenly, unable to keep himself from expressing his amusement about his own stupidity. It ended soon enough as he cocked his head at the response. Every pack has its problems. Fair enough, but if left Eyolf wondering, his intuition told him the she-wolf wasn't telling him something, but he left it alone for the sake of simpleness. As the signs of any tenseness left the scene of the two teens, Cougar seemed more relaxed within the water to Eyolf.
Everything seems alright, isn't it? Swimming further in to feel the spray of the falls on his back, his brown-tipped ears reclined softly and brown eyes closed as a long, satisfied sigh escaped the 'Lucky Wolf'. He came closer to Cougar a bit, as a friendly gesture, but kept a respectful amount of distance so it didn't seem weird. Suddenly a grin cracked onto the Shape-shifter's face as he batted one elegant beige paw down, Splash! The crackle of water was heard as it nearly splashed against the female's bangs, or if it did hit, Eyolf wasn't sure. But his intent was clear all right. A bright, playful and teasing smirk, bright brown eyes dancing with joy as he looked intently on the female. He asked with a slightly smug tone, -"Can y' get me, or am I too fast? Ha ha ha!"
Let's see how good she is at playing Splash!

E L L I S The water had not hit the female, not even come close. Instead, the blonde male stood before Eyolf, lanky form towering over the pup white droplets of water slid eagerly from his exposed muzzle. "You." he snarled, hardened gaze narrowed at the male, body trembling with either rage, or anticipation- it was a little tricky to tell. The wolf emitted that strange odor, the one he recognized. "...GO HOME." he spat, silver eyes flashing dangerously. "Go now, an' never come back... If you do," his gaze darkened. "I will have to kill you." If there was one thing you should know about Ellis, it was that he did NOT make idle threats. Yes, he was the playful glue that kept the Northern pack together. Yes, the two and a half year old himself was only barely emerging out of puphood, but you did not go against what this male said. "Ya'll are just lucky Moonrunner didn't catch ya." he spat. "She wouldn' be as generous as I am to you. Now GET." A flash of teeth, a warning bite aimed at Eyolf's muzzle, and he hoped the point got across.

[/li][/ul] The she-wolf could feel his presence only moments before he stood infront of her and blocking her from the southern male. Just what she had expected, and the reason she had not pushed the flirting further. But Cougar was almost happy that Gaellis had broken up the splashing session; it seemed that the she-wolf might gain a small punishment from her older friend. He threatened the southerner with a great furiousity. "Ellis.." She stood in the most shallow part of the water, moving away from the splash of Eyolf and the sudden figure of Gaellis.
Almost pleading eyes begged for them to just leave, wanting to just get away. Cougar's wet fur, plastered to her skin, chilled her to the bone. She looked down with a sorry expression at the male she had been swimming with only moments before. "Let's go... I don't think he will be of any trouble... He is one of Brock's boys." She didn't really want to leave, but if Moonrunner found the pair like this- it would be the end of this southerner. Ellis wouldn't kill him, at least she didn't think so. Not with her watching anyways. He was too good for cold-blooded murder.
Why did everything in her life have to go wrong? Why did the teeth always have to be exposed and the blood always drawn? It wasn't right. She couldn't murder, it wasn't in her blood. Never had been. Ellis had taught her not to meddle with other peoples business. 'To kill your kind that is not your blood is as bad as killing your best friend.' Killing was bad in Cougar's mind; even if it was perfectly fine in the alphesses.
Ellis had taught her much more than any other wolf through her youth. The male stood almost a head taller than her, with his strawberry blonde fur and icy blue eyes. They looked nothing alike, except for the stunning blue eyes, they were complete opposites. Cougar had a away of dragging in the male. Somehow.

| Eyolf jumped nearly a foot in the air as the turquoise marked wolf came out of nowhere it seemed. Brown eyes wide, some fear and surprise obvious, the beige wolf was soaked as he took a step back in the shallow water as the older male threatened him viciously. And from the likes of it, a male of the Northerner's, here to take Cougar back with him. His eyes darted over to Cougar and he saw the apologetic look. His eyes held a sorrow in them, and he quickly closed them as he shivered in the now cold air and from his predicament. The message was clear, be lucky it wasn't Moonrunner and get going NOW. Looking again at Cougar with a similar sorrowful look from before, as if longing to tell her he was sorry. He somehow felt the female was going to be punished and all because of him. A strong wave of guilt flashed through the yearling. His brown tipped ears pulled back to the flat of his skull as his pained eyes closed tightly, beige fur hanging soaked and dripping wet.
I'm sorry Cougar... I shouldn't have come... Muttering quietly, stuttering, almost incomprehensibly, -"S-S-Sorry sir, I'm go-going now... Cou-Cougar I'm sorry to y-you too...," Turning around remarkably quick, water flashing brilliantly in the air as the male swiftly high-tailed it away to avoid Ellis's snapping jaws. The water that the Lucky Wolf had disturbed landed with a flash in Eston Falls as the Southern male swam to the bank, and darted away. The beige flash shifted suddenly a few feet form the bank into the form of an owl. The beige owl with barred markings and large wings flew away with a great flapping of the wings and soft cooing all the way up. The form of the Shape-shifter dissipated in the distance like a ghost in the fire-fly lit night. But you could still hear the mournful hooting of the owl. It sounded as if he was trying to say If only, I could see you one more time, things would be different, If only.
I hope my supposed luck helps Cougar escape any punishment... I hope...
