She ate quietly, the grass on the plains rippled with the passing wind. It was perfect. It was the perfect kill. Sira lurked behind the doe. Quietly, patiently, and full of stealth. She took a step closer, a tingle ran through her back and spine. she shook it off, figuring it was just adrenalin coursing through her body. She took another step, the tingle came back, it lasted a little more than the last. She shook her head in confusion, but she had to bring this doe back. They were running a tad low in the pack.
She took yet another step, her eyes opened wide. In the same place she felt the tingled, she now felt pain. It felt like shards of glass fell on her fur and began to dig under her skin. She took in a deep breathe and howled in pain. The doe looked over her shoulder and without a second glance she frolicked away.
In the mean time, Sira looked over her shoulder, she saw blood trickle down her fur in several places. She her head back and took in another breath. She let out another sharp scream of pain. Her screams echoed through the valley. The pain grew stronger, her skin was tearing. She was scared, she didn't know what was going on. And the blood kept running down.

Blood-curdling shrieks ripped through the valley. Thor’s head jerked up from the stream he was drinking at, water drippling from his half-closed lips. It was a wolf- no, it was Sira! Thor lunged forward, breaking into his fastest run. He knew he should’ve never left her to hunt while he stopped to drink, he thought, immediately blaming himself. And why shouldn’t he? If he had been with her, he could have protected her. But, from what? What made Sira scream so fearfully? A bear with cubs, perhaps, or a stray mountain lion, or even a deranged outcast wolf. Whatever it is, I’ll kill it, he growled to himself, anger coursing through his body and spurring him onward.
He burst through the trees that guarded the stream, racing toward a swath of rich grass that held the terrible sounds. It seemed like he had been running forever, but when he finally stumbled upon Sira the whole journey had only taken seconds. Thor looked down at the poor wolf, surprised to find no creature signs beside the doe she had been tracking. But he smelled blood, and looking at her spasming back he could see it trickling down. Thor stilled the fear rising in his stomach, and swiftly came to her side. Now he could see spike-like protrusions coming from her spine, and in a moment Thor’s mind slipped into an old memory.
He was only one year of age, when he had felt this horrible itching along his back. Throughout the day it had progressively gotten worse, until he was rolling on the ground with the pain. Within moments the lumps that had been swelling underneath his skin burst, revealing a raw set of wings. Thor remembered the blood and fluids that dribbled down his back, and the agony of the experience. Now, five years old, he was glad he had undergone the transformation. Suddenly snapping back into reality, Thor looked down at Sira, the memories still fresh in his mind. “It’s alright, Sira, it’s alright! You’re just transforming!” he said in an effort to bring her comfort, as he pressed his wet nose against her neck.

Her claws dug into the ground. The pain was progressing. She was alone and scared. She had no idea what was happening. Just as she nearly collapsed from the pain she saw Thor in the distance. Her heart began to spike. She felt relieved she wasn't alone anymore. But it didn't take fer full attention away from the excitement happening on her back and spine.
She heard him speak of a transformation. She didn't even know she could do that. He had wings, is that what she was getting? But it didn't feel like that is what she was getting. It felt like the mysterious transformation was going to grow on the whole space of her back. He placed his nose on her neck. But she cringed.
She looked over her shoulder again. Now she saw black spikes pretruding from her back. The blood made them sparkle in the summer sun. It was a glorious moment, yet she felt the exact opposite. Miserable and felt like wanting to die. She was glad it was just Thor. She wouldn't want her pack to see the betess in this condition.
They kept growing, now they were almost a foot long. They started at the back of her neck, and there were five rows that ended before her tail. The pain had become less and less. They must be almost done. But the blood certainly began to make her dizzy. Her head began to spin. The white on her fur was now stained with red. The color of her eyes were white. Now she felt her legs become weak. Her vision began to blur. Then she collapsed.

“I knew you had it in you,” Thor said in a pleased voice. He took a step back, his eyes riveted on the spines that continued to protrude out of her back. Sira was still in much pain, but soon it would cease, and she would be amazed at how her body had transformed. Thor was quite glad, and it showed in his muddy red eyes, that sense of excitement and anticipation coming to a climix around his black pupils. It was true, Thor had been afraid that Sira was what they call a “dud”, with no special traits to account her royal Uuma lineage. But it just so happened that her gift had been waiting, all along, to emerge at just the right moment. Even without the spikes, Thor would have accepted Sira the way she was, as she was a wolf of value, loyal and heroic. But now Thor didn’t have to feel that small bit of disappointment and pity that came whenever he was using his own gifts, and she was standing next to him with none of her own.
“Hurts like heck, don’t it?” Thor chuckled. Perhaps the loosely worded statement seemed cold, with Sira in such agony, but Thor had undergone similar experiences himself. He knew that there was nothing to do but wait for it to pass, and get over it. As Sira tensed again, her body cringing as the spikes fully emerged, Thor surpressed the temptation to reach out and console her. For he remembered his attempt earlier, and it seemed his touch was only another annoyance to her overwhelmed nerves. Thor, not being much of a hug-and-kiss type of guy, was fine with that, although he felt somewhat useless just standing around watching. But heck, the whole scene was rather exciting to observe, with the blood and whatnot adding to the thrill of the experience.

When she fell on the grass, she felt the blood begin to dry in her fur. She felt relieved, knowing that the growing process was done. Then a thought ran through her head, "if birth is just a fraction of this pain... I think I'll be set..." she chuckled to herself. A casual joke in her head to lighten her mood. Her head still left dizzy, and in every spot that had spikes was throbbing. Every now and again her paws would cringe, sometimes a summer breeze and fresh cuts didn't make the best of friends.
She tried to stand up again, her legs resembled the knobby first steps of A new born horse. Once she got her legs to function, her head began to spin. So she closed her eyes in an attempt to make sure she wouldn't fall again. The spikes made her wonder, how did she get them? Why did the transformation wait until she was older? Why not when she was a pup? She couldn't see the full detail of them, but she was curious to find out. "How do they look?" so questioned. Her eyes waved over in another color, a light blue. It was relief. She was happy she had a power of her own. But now the journey began to her to learn how to use them.

From the way Sira’s whole body relaxed, Thor could tell that it was over. A light summer breeze began to dry the blood on his beta’s pelt, and she turned her head to him, her eyes glowing sky blue with their relief. “They look fantastic,” Thor proclaimed, stepping closer to eye the sharp row of spines going down her spine. They were gorgeous, intimidating, striking; they would be the envy of every wolf who laid eyes on them.
Thor told her so, saying, “Everyone in the pack will be jealous.” His eyes then narrowed as he scrutinized the sharp-tipped, narrow structures. “Hmm. Now I suppose you’ll just have to learn how to use them.” Thor gave a slight nod, picturing in his mind how they could be used in a hunt.

My heart still wishes for the love I lost. She smiled as he complimented them. She was happy that he still liked the appearance of her with her new spikes. She also wondered what could be done with her new power. She smiled once more and looked up at him. Her eyes turned a lavender. An emotion even she couldn't explain. "How do you think they work?" she started out. She was curious. She wanted to test them. What could they do? But first off she wanted to clear her pelt of the blood. "Thor... Can we find a pond?" she awkwardly smiled. ...But my mind is telling to follow the crosshairs.

Thor flicked his ear dismissively at her first question. To him they just looked like ordinary spikes. Sharp ones, of course, and if you landed on one you’d be gutted like a fish. But to Thor’s naked eye it seemed they carried no special properties. He wondered how long it would take Sira to learn how to wield her new weapons; it had taken him over a year to gain full control over his own powers. Thor remembered his adolescent days, when every wolf in the pack was afraid to step near his tail lest it let off an unexpected shock. Now Thor had complete control over his unique appendage, and he had also gained knowledge in flight and skill in light-bending.
She asked about a pond where she could wash off. “Not a bad idea,” Thor commented, eyeing her grisly-looking pelt. “There aren’t any ponds in the valley, but I know of a large river you can soak in.” Thor flicked his tail and turned, heading for a line of thick green grass that he knew guarded the river’s flanks. He set out at a trot, eager to see how Sira looked in her spikes with a clean set of fur. Heading across the fields to the water gave Thor some time to fully appreciate the exciting blur that went by just moments before.

My heart still wishes for the love I lost. She smiled at him when he spoke of a river near by. She couldn't wait to get the caked on blood from her fur. Even through her spikes looked plain, who know what else they could do alone the way.
She knew what he was looking for, a row of a grass that thrived in a certain spot. The closer the grass is to the water, the more flourished it will be. She scanned the surroundings, looking for the spot. And sure enough she did. She broke into a lope to get to the river. She got there in no time. Her legs splashed in the cool, river water. She looked at the depth of the river, just enough for her back to submerge under. She took in a long breath, and let her body sink into the water. Waves of relief throbbed through her and the openings on her back were cooled with water.
Once she was through rinsing her fur, she stood up from being under. A smile was painted on her face, and her eyes turned a powder blue again. She turned towards Thor. Not really noticing that she just turned to smile at him. But she didn't care. She felt clean again. And she felt more useful to her pack that ever. "As painful as it was... This has to be one of the most memorable moments of my life..." But my mind is telling to follow the crosshairs.

”As painful as it was, this has to be one of the most memorable moments of my life.” Thor’s jaws slacked open, his tongue slipping out in a happy wolf-grin. With all the blood and grime washed from her fur, and her coat’s natural color glowing from the water, Thor thought she looked… beautiful. He’d never thought of Sira as being pretty; I mean, she wasn’t ugly or anything, but the idea had simply never crossed his mind. But now, just him and Sira, with nothing else to occupy his brain, Thor had to admit it.
Thor’s gaze blurred and went right through Sira for the brief moment that he pondered over the thought. Then it snapped back to reality, and Thor quickly shifted into rational mode. He figured while they were alone Sira might want to try out her new gifts; he knew it might take a while to get used to the spikes’ presence. After four years without them, it would take a good amount of time to gather enough skill to wield them accurately.

My heart still wishes for the love I lost. She turned her head as she watched his gaze turn from clear to unclear. What could have been thinking? It was none of her business. She ran in a circle, trying to get a betting glimpse of her new power. But she gave up. As it made her dizzy. She she stepped up on the lip of the river. Her fur was drenched with water. And with the valley breeze, it was quiet refreshing. As much as she loved the cool breeze and water, she shook herself to rid off most of the excess water that was dripping off her.
She wondered what she could do. Or better yet, now sharp they were. "I wonder what I can do with them? I look like a porcupine... " the second part came right after the first. She hadn't realized she said it so quickly, and mow realizing it was quiet random. But her mouth just spurted out words without her thinking. At least it wasn't something she would regret saying.
Back to her original question, what could they do? She was thinking of where she could begin on her training. Attacking? Concealing? What could she do with spikes that stood on her back, she stuck out like a soar thumb! Then again. Taking a look at Thor made her feel even with him. As he had wings that rested on his back and shoulders. But my mind is telling to follow the crosshairs.

She asked the question Thor was just thinking, and added on a little funny part at the end. Thor chuckled at her porcupine comment, but he was still convinced that they were nothing more than sharp spikes. “I dunno, skewer something?” he suggested jokingly, his dark eyes gleaming. Thor wanted to stay by the river with Sira, but in all honesty his mind was getting dragged back to the pack that was waiting for them. He was their leader, and she was their beta. The longer they were gone, the more Thor grew impatient, and he shifted his weight restlessly.
“C’mon, let’s go back to the pack and show them your new spikes,” Thor said, turning back to where they had come. He suddenly remembered the deer that Sira had spooked during the transformation; it was too bad, really, as now they’d have to return empty-handed.

My heart still wishes for the love I lost. She knew there is more that could be done that skewering something. But she would figure it out on the way. She could tell that he was becoming bothered that he was away from the pack for so long. He had duties for his pack, but sometimes it doesn't seem like he relaxes. Oh well, nothing she could change about him.
As he turned back to go to the pack, she let out a sigh. Under her breath of course. Sometimes she wondered if he ever had free time from the pack. She knows running a pack has several duties are responsibilities. But for as small as the pack is, it won't go to complete chaos in a couple hours. She trailed behind him, with a slight distance. Her mind fogged with thoughts.
Once they had gotten into the forest to where their pack was, she looked at the trees they were passing. Each time they passed on, she tilted her side and back. She watched as the spikes scratches through the trees. They definitely were sharp. She smiled when she saw a few lines carved into the tree. Well, it was a start to her discovery anyway. But my mind is telling to follow the crosshairs.

Thor did not notice Sira’s disappointment as they crossed over the river and neared the forest’s edge. He, himself, was quite content. This was obvious in the upbeat manner that he trotted, his tail up and eyes bright. Thor broke his gaze off from the familiar forest path to glance at Sira. She was testing out her spikes, and seemed quite happy with herself. As she should be; looking at the lines dug into the trees behind them, Thor could really admire the spikes’ potency.
Looking forward again, Thor tested the air for the scent of the pack. He was supremely proud of his accomplishments in gaining his territory and his followers, but for Thor there was no proper time for just relaxing and enjoying his achievements. And it was good, wise thinking, for an alpha should always be on the alert. Let your guard down, and before you know it someone else will take your place.

My heart still wishes for the love I lost.Even though she was a bit down that he'd rather sound time with his pack instead of she, she had to push it off her mind. Lately she had been thinking that way,it used to just be him and her, and she had nothing to worry about. She had grown some attachment to him. But when the wolves became to join the pack, it wasn't slowly, it was rapidly. So she had to share her time all at once, instead of progressively. She wondered if she would get over this. Then again, she is his beta.
As for her new power, she began to get more into the training. She noticed a tree that was a bit farther up, there was a section of the tree that had a bushel of leaves a few feet off the ground. Wondering how many she could get on her spikes, she decided to run for it. Once she neared she pulled her head down, revealing the tips. But it didn't seem like it was enough. Her mind raced, thinking of how to get them to go forward. Jumping? Maybe. When she had through of it, she hadn't realized shre was closer than she thought. Last minute, she pushed up on her hind legs. She must've looked like a foolish pup. But, she didn't feel too unhopeful. Once she cleared the bush, she turned to see. A few mangeled leaves her and there. But not the results she was wanting.
"There has to mbe a way to change their direction... Straight up would be useless..." she cursed under her breath. She hated the learning process. It takes way too long. "Thor, how long did it take for you to get your wings to work like they do?" deciding that instead of waiting, she wondered how much practice time she would need. Maybe she could cut that time in half. But my mind is telling to follow the crosshairs.
