She listened as he spoke, wondering how a pack could end up entirely related to each other. It wasn't entirely uncommon for naama, she had heard. Their packs sometimes consisted of a mated pair and two litters of offspring. At least, that was how it was back where she had lived. Their kind, though...they were gifted with greater power and intelligence, and were more likely to take in strays and incorporate them into the pack hierarchy. Granted, that all depended on the pack itself.
"I'd think you'd find more than your fill of adventure and excitement in a rogue pack in the dead of winter," she pointed out once he was finished speaking. "Freedom...I think that comes from being an alpha or a loner. In any pack, you have to do what the higher-ups say. If you don't like it, then you leave or try to take over and risk expulsion or death." Her wings twitched, resenting their current position, but she held them close to her back. "She is right, some packs kill on the spot. Others might give you a chance. You don't know which pack is which until you encounter a wolf from whichever pack, and by then it's too late." A moment passed before she responded to the rest of what he had said. "I like you, too. You're the only wolf here I think I can trust."

He couldn't help but smile, his tail gently thwomp-thwomp-thwomping against her side. "I didn' wanna leave forever..." he murmured quietly. "Maybe find a nice girl, take her back... But... Now? I don' think I'd mind stayin a while." He knew he'd have a hard time escaping from Brock, or even Xane, but he was content here. Sure, he didn't like the way Moonrunner did things, but she had... HAD a good heart, he felt. Now? Kaine was hte only reason why heso much as stuck around.
"Hey." he murmmured, muzzle pointing down to the ground, where a grumpy looking cougar sniffed at the deer they killed before- apparently, it thought the same thing as the two Uuma resting in the tree.
Gaellis was on his paws, his gaze turned to the female beside him, a sudden urge to impress her rising in his chest. If he could land... Just right...
His paws hit the cat's side, bowling it over while it screamed ferociously, the wolf perched upon the ground snarling at it angrily. A cougar? It wasn't a bear, but Moonrunner would approve of what the two caught.
He could feel it, bubbling deep within his chest, that familiar sound only he seemed to be able to make. He faced the cat who was upon its feet once again, his lips drawing back in a deep, ferocious howl aimed directly at the animal. It stumbled, deafened by the enormous sound echoing out of the male, shaking its head like water lodged itself in its ears.
"GO, KAINE!" he yelled, keeping the cougar focused on him so she could land behind it and kill it with a bite or two.

While he wagged his tail, she kept her own still. It wasn't that she was unhappy. Quite the opposite, in fact. Her tail was topped with quills than ran from the base to the tip, though, and - unless she was careful - it'd be easy to injure Ellis or herself.
She listened as he spoke, ears perking when he said he hadn't intended on leaving forever. If everyone in the pack was related, finding a mate and bringing her back wasn't going to change that. Any resulting pups would still be related to the rest of the pack. She kept silent about that. It didn't really apply to the conversation, especially once he moved on. She vaguely wandered if he really was fine staying with the pack. He seemed it, but the attitude of most of the members was so different from his own...but it was different from her own, as well, and - while she couldn't say this was the happiest situation she could find herself in - it wasn't a miserable existence. Just one that took some getting used to.
Such thoughts were driven from her mind when he drew her attention to a cougar checking out their kill. A cougar would certainly feed the pack for the day, at least. It was better than a coyote, at any rate.
Gaellis was out of the tree soon after, and he knocked the cougar off its paws. She scowled at him. What he was doing was dangerous! Too late now, though. She was out of the tree almost before he shouted at her, her wings opening to control her fall while the wind shifted to keep her scent away from the cougar. She speed downward, intending to trip the large cat as she landed and run her long claws through its throat and belly. Her spikes were slightly raised from her body, defending her spine. Unless things got desperate, she would keep them in a defensive position. They'd be a pain to remove from the corpse if she had to resort to attacking with them.

His tail bristled out as the cat flew away from the navy bullet that smacked it. He was proud, to fight beside Kaine, especially as the large cat writhed on the ground, still screaming in agony. Any prey nearby would definitely be gone for a while. That's alright, there were other parts of the forest to hunt through. The cat couldn't seem to get its grip, and wasn't in a place to defend itself, slashing out at everything that seemed to move, but Gaellis was easily able to dodge those hits, his gaze half on Kaine, half on the cat.
"Uhh... Kaine?" he questioned, slightly louder than the cat's wails. HE certainly wasn't going to deliver the killing blow, not when it could still take him out. "D'you think I could have one of your rabbits, by any chance?" Still, he stuck to his word about not eating carnivores. Maybe if times were desperate, but they weren't. His gaze lingered a bit too long on the female, and with a last violent screech, the cat sunk its claws into his side, and dug down.
Ellis let out a loud yelp, drawing immediately away from the cat, glaring at it angrily and looking a bit put off. "LOOKIT WHAT IT DID TO ME." he growled, cringing somewhat away from the pain. "You can't fix this, can you?" he mumbled, ears pressing flat against his head. Damn, that hurt...

((Hope this is okay. ^.^ ) The good news was that she connected successfully. The bad news was that the cougar was now in panic mode, which made it even more dangerous than before. She dodged its claws, focusing and waiting for a relatively safe moment where she could dart in and finish it off. Before that moment came, Ellis spoke to her, asking for one of the rabbits. Why he didn't wait until after the fight to ask such a thing, she had no idea. Had he ever fought a larger predator before? They required all a wolf's focus, and if he wasn't careful he'd end up hurt. Then he yelped, learning the hard way something every pup in her former pack was taught before they were even old enough to hunt. She spotted the claws in his flesh and swung her tail at the cougar's leg as her packmate pulled away, spikes sticking out as far as they could. Hoping that was enough to stop its attack, she darted in and deepened the wound in its throat. A risky move, but the fight needed to end now before either of them received a fatal wound. As she jumped away, jaws narrowly missed her front left paw and a flailing limb acme a whisker's width short of catching on a wing membrane. She backed away from the feline. Now, it would only be a matter of moments before it died. She came out of the battle relatively unscathed, though only because their opponent had been focusing on him instead of her. Now that they were out of the life-or-death situation, she'd be able to check on him. "If you're fighting something of equal or greater strength, you need to focus primarily on it. Questions about things happening after can wait - though, to answer your question, of course." She tried to keep her voice even as she spoke. He wasn't a pup. Yelling would only make matters worse, even if it was only because he had worried her. She crouched near him and began licking at the wound, hoping it wasn't as bad as it looked. "Healing isn't one of my talents. All I can do is clean the wound so it heals properly." She paused to glance at him - well, his face, anyway. "Did it get you anywhere else?"

(Totally fine! :3!)
"I-I-I thought it was down!" he wailed, ears pressed flat against his skull. Ellis was never really the best hunter, even in his old pack. He'd left that to his siblings, taking the time to learn the old ways of the elders. Craning his neck to a side, he focused on the wound, gaze searching for anything, any sign of bone or the like. No white shown, just a small stream of red. "N-N-No, no, Kaine. I'm fine." he murmured, falling to the ground.
Now they were safe, and away from the cat, embarassment filled his heart and his veins. He felt instantly guilty for almost hurting Kaine, and he wanted to bury his face in the Earth and forget about it. "I'll live." he grumbled, finally letting out an angry 'KA.' as he pushed his muzzle into the earth. "We should probably bring this thing back to the pack. I know a few will be hungry." he grumbled, carefully pushing himself up.
Gaellis swayed for a moment, though quickly regained his balance. Finally, he noticed the hoarseness of his voice, the crackly feeling in his throat. THAT howl had been a little rougher than he originally anticipated, though he nearly prayed she thought highly of him, his gaze locked upon the fae.

"It's past. Can't do anything about it now." She wasn't the best at soothing someone when they were upset, but she felt she should try, however badly it came out. "At least you're not dead, and if this was the worst of it you should recover easily enough."
Once the wound was cleaned she stepped back, looking away as he grumbled and pushed his muzzle into the earth. It seemed like something he wanted privacy for, and that was the best she could do. But then he was done and said they should bring the kill back to the back. At that, she nodded, and she searched the body to figure out the best place to grip. The tail was the natural choice, but would it support the weight of the rest of the animal?
Movement caught her eye and she noticed him sway for just a moment before regaining his balance. "You can travel now, I assume?" He would probably say yes, but it felt right to ask. Either way, she'd kept an eye on him. She worried about the male, and didn't want him to come to any further harm.

Oh that boy was dough in her paws. "Nah. I've gotten... Much worse." he grunted, gently headbutting her quietly. "I can walk at least. Just take it slow, y'know?" Padding forward, he reached down to take the creature's shoulder upon his back, stumbling under the weight. "Think ya can take the haunches?" he inquired, legs trembling below him.
He was a lanky wolf, not a tough, fat one, and only thoughts of distance kept him walking. Five hundred yards to the densite, four hundred, two hundred and fifty... Soon enough, with much grunting and effort, they dragged the kill half-way, "K-Kaine. Can we take a break?"

She nodded when he asked her to take it slow and supported their kill’s haunches when he took the shoulder. The two walked together, and she did her best to match his pace, resisting the urge to run ahead. It was tedious, but it’d be worth it in the end. Most of the pack would be pleased to have the meat.
They made it maybe halfway when she heard him speak, requesting a break. She nodded and stopped. “How are you holding up? Do you need me to carry it on my own?” She wasn’t sure if she was capable of such a thing, but Ellis…wasn’t at his best. He needed a healer, but did the pack have one?
