Dawnince walked into the South Thumb. She was here to meet the Alpha or Alpess of this pack. She was hoping to join this pack. Her wings folded neatly on her back. Sabor tooth fangs jutted out of her mouth. Her blood red nose smelled for anything suspicious. When she smelt rabbit, she broke into the creatures mind. It walked over to her and layed down beside her. Good! I'm not going to hurt you. She then broke free of the creature's mind and is bolted away. Dawnince laughed heartily. She then turned around and headed deeper into the territory. A thin layer of crunching snow blanketed the ground. A temperature of 40 degrees chilled the air. Her breath turned to mist when she sighed. If she didn't find shelter she'd freeze. but faithfully she stayed in the cold waiting for one of the rulers of the pack to greet her. Soon her legs began to tremble but she stayed, growing colder by the second. Please hurry! she pleaded in her thoughts.

It was cold. Too cold for Ayria's comfort. She needed to be out here, though. Patrols were an important part of maintaining a territory and keeping it free of intruders. Also, it was one of those rare times where she wanted to be alone. She loved her pack, and she loved her mate, but there was something on her mind and she needed to focus to work it out. Even Almond was nowhere around the alphess, the squirrel having holed up in the den to escape the cold.
Ayria was fairly in-tune with her body. She didn't know if it was because she was a healer or if it had come from the hardship of being a loner and then part of a pair rather than a pack earlier in her life, but her body felt...odd lately. Not a bad odd, but something felt out of place. Being alone and away from distraction, she could pinpoint the abnormality. She had a thought as to what it might have been - she and Brock were mates in more than name, after all - but confirmation was a good thing.
She walked and focused and finally - near the end of her patrol - being alone had done the trick. The feeling was in her abdomen. She was almost sure of it, now. It would take a little more time to tell for absolute sure, and she would hold off on her announcement until then, but excitement built up from deep inside her. This spring, there could well be several new little additions to the pack.
I hope Brock will end up as happy as I am when I tell him...
There was a bounce in her step as she continued her patrol. She tried not to get too excited - she could be wrong - but it was hard to keep down the hope, and her subconscious was already trying to form names for the little ones she may or may not be having.
Grah...the next few days are going to last forever...
Shaking her head as if to clear it, she forced her focus back on the patrol. All was well for a while, but eventually she spotted a lone lupine shape in the distance. Drawing closer, she noticed the other wolf was by herself, out in the cold. Nothing about her suggested a threat and she wasn't hunting. Either she was seeking membership or she was a loner on the lookout for somewhere to warm up.
"Hello!" She called to the other wolf as she approached. Her wings, like the stranger's, were folded against her back, keeping it slightly warmer than the rest of her body. She would need to seek shelter soon, as well, especially if she was pregnant like she suspected. For the moment, though, her focus needed to be on the stranger. Not that that was hard, for the other wolf's appearance was...unique. She shared Ayria's feathery wings and saber teeth - a fact that amused the alphess - but the newcomer's coat was different from anything she had ever seen. It seemed to have a floral pattern that sparkled in the light. The other wolf's nose and claws were a bloody red, unlike the usual black or brown, and a ruby in her forehead, where the alphess had a unicorn-like horn. Lastly, she sported feathers and an earring.
More important than the other wolf's features, she looked cold. Ayria nodded toward the dens. Other wolves would be there, and they would intervene if the stranger turned out to be a threat, but in the meantime they had to get to shelter. "Walk with me. We'll talk on the way." She turned and headed in the direction she had indicated. "My name's Ayria, and I'm the alphess of the pack that rules these lands."

Walk with me. We'll talk on the way. My name's Ayria, and I'm the alphess of the pack that rules these lands. Rang through Dawnince's ears. She looked at the alphess. Wings, fangs, and so much prettier than she knew most wolves. But she looked a little round. Must be pregnant! Dawnince dipped her head in respect to the alpha She then lifted her head and wagged her tail. "I'm Dawnince. Pleasure to meet you! I wish to join you pack." Dawnince introduced herself. When the alpha started walking toward what looked like dens, gratitude filled her. Warmth! She jumped for joy in her head. She kept walking by the alpha excited to see the pack she would hopefully join.

The stranger dipped her head respectfully at Ayria and wagged her tail before introducing herself. She was a polite wolf and seemed to be friendly as well. It was always a pleasure to meet wolves that were easy to get along with, and Ayria found her own tail wagging as the two headed for the pack dens.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Dawnince," she said as they walked. "Welcome to the Southern pack. I'm sure you'll have no trouble fitting in." The pack rules had said that not everyone could be accepted, and so far Ayria had accepted every loner seeking a pack, but Brock would understand. They still had plenty of room, and only someone truly heartless would refuse a lone wolf with fall half over and winter growing closer day by day. Besides, she had nothing but good feelings concerning Illyrian when she had been taken in, and she had nothing but good feelings concerning Dawnince. She would be a valuable asset to the pack, just like all the other members.

Dawnince heard her alpha greet her. She beamed off happiness. Her tail continued to wang like a helicopter fan. A smile spread on her face. The duo finally reached the dens. It was definately warmer there, she walked in. It sure was cozy. She almost forgot Ayria's presence. She then whipped around and walked up to the alphess. She sat down next to her comfortably. "Are you pregnant. I'm sorry to ask but you look a little..... Round." Dawnince couldn't help but ask. It made happiness swell up inside. She was glad there was going to have some tiny paws around the camp in spring.

They reached the dens, and Dawnince made herself right at home entering the dens. Ayria couldn't blame her. It was freezing out, and the alphess had no idea how long the newcomer had been out there. She shivered at the thought and was grateful that she had found Dawnince when she did.
The newcomer turned and walked back to Ayria, and the alphess stared at her, confused, as she sat down. Dawnince then asked if she was pregnant. Ayria stared at her for a moment, caught off-guard. She hadn't noticed any roundness on herself, but she wouldn't since it would have been a gradual change. It did help to confirm her suspicions, though. Perhaps she should tell Brock as soon as she saw him. For now, though, she had a question to answer. "I...think I might be, actually, though I'm not far along."

"Okay!" Dawnince replied. She didn't want to puzzle the alphess, but she looked just a tiny bit round. She didn't have enhanced vision or anything. Just had a good eye for changes. Dawnince flicked her ears at the confused stare from Ayria. She felt a bit more confused than usual. She had found the pack, was getting accepted, and now was laying in a warm den. It just flashed past her eyes. She hadn't even noticed the snow falling outside the den. When she did look outside she found it was blowing hard wind, and was barely snowing. She shivered at the thought of still being stuck out there. She was grateful for when Ayria found for she probably wouldn't have survived out there.

Ayria took a few steps deeper into the den when she felt the wind that had picked up, chilling the air even further than what it had been. She turned around once she was sufficiently sheltered and lay on her side, her head lited up so she could easily view the den's entrance and the newcomer. She frowned as she watched the world outside. "It sometimes feels as though it's getting colder by the second..." She sighed. She liked snow, but she was never fond of winter In winter, it was uncomfortably cold, prey was scarce, and many water sources were often frozen and dangerous. In short, survival during the winter was hard, and with the probable coming of pups she would have to work particularly hard to find enough food.

Dawnince heard her alphess say. "It sometimes feels as though it's getting colder by the second..."
" I agree. I forgot to ask you something, I was wondering if this pack would welcome me as a member. I'm an animal whsiperer which would come in handy when we're hunting. I've got fang, wings, and well, I was just sorta wondering. You took the trouble to find me so I can't thank you enough, but one question stills hangs in my head. What of you don't want me.." Dawnince confessed. She felt a little relieved feeling some pressure lifted from her shoulders. Dawnince yawned getting very sleepy. But she stayed awake to her Ayria's reply. Her mind wandered towards the hare. She had always wanted an animal buddy but figured she'd better help others get their's first. Dawnince sighed. Her glittery, faded out roses shimmered as she lay down. She felt much more relaxed than she could ever imagine, her wings rubbed against the den. She fangs hung out of her mouth, and feathers dangled from behind her ear. She felt that she stuck out since she was black, glittery, had sabor fangs, raven wings, and ughhh. It just made her so frustrated. She snapped back into reality when she scraped her wing on a sharp rock. She almost yelped but the pain disappeared in a second. "Ahhh." Dawnince sighed.

Dawnince agreed with her, and then proceeded to ask her something. The alphess listened, her gaze fixed on her companion as the other she-wolf spoke. The newcomer was worried about being welcomed into the pack. Ayria could understand that. It was hard, especially since Dawnince had yet to meet anyone other than the alphess herself.
"I wouldn't worry." Ayria smiled at her companion. "Our pack mates are generally kind, and the one wolf that might have been disagreeable didn't seem to like much of anyone aside from my mate..." She sighed. "And that was the power more than the personality. Thankfully, she's gone now."
Ayria stretched and shifted into a more comfortable position. "My mate, Brock, has always been kind and welcoming, as long as you know not to take his humor seriously. I'm...not quite sure when you'll met him. He's often gone for long periods, lately, making sure our territory is protected." And on the lookout for Moonrunner, she guessed. "As for the others, you'll meet them in time, and I'm sure they'll be friendly, as well." Especially Illyrian. That thought amused the alphess. "Also, your enhancements certainly won't be out of place here. If not for the extra beauty in our fur, we might look like sisters." She laughed. "You'll be very happy here. You'll see."
