The sun was starting to set over the southern territory. And now she decided to go to her favorite place at night. The basin. It was at this time, the sun set over the water, leaving a brilliant array of colors for that short amount of time. But even after that, the fun isn't over.
She walked through the shallow waters and make the sunset in the water ripple. She trotted around, splashing water. She felt like a pup. The rays of the sun slowly fell under the trees. Then she closed her eyes for a few seconds.
"Mother, what are these?" she watched the little golden balls dance back and forth. Her mother smiled, "why, those are called fireflies my darling... The like to play on water lands and fields... They play at night" she explained. "All the time? Don't they ever sleep?" the pup gasped. Her mother chuckled, "they sleep during the day my young daughter..." she smiled, for her pups mind was still new. "What about the sun, how can they sleep when it's so bright! Silly little bugs..." her snapped at one that bounced off her nose. Her mother laughed, "they like it that way... Now close your eyes Corra! Before the sun sets!" she watched as her pup followed her order. A few seconds went by, "now open!" she watched as her pups eyes lit up with amusement and excitement. Thousands of fireflies swirled around them. And then the pup ran around, trying to chase after every single one.
She opened her eyes, and just like her memory, thousands of golden balls danced and danced in the night sky. And just like her memory, she chased after them. She splashed in the puddles wildly, and her tail couldn't stop wagging. She loved the basin. She loved her fireflies.

Kairos had traveled all day, and finally he made it to the rim of the southern pack territories. It had taken him forever to find directions in the first place; he had to go through two outcast wolves before he finally convinced one to tell him Mors’ location. After that, it had been relatively easy, though not the most enjoyable work. He had spent all morning and midday maneuvering cautiously through neighboring packlands before finally coming across what the rogue wolf told him about: Biscuit Basin.
Kairos, a lean but masculine blonde-colored wolf, now stood before a thin line of trees which encircled the basin. Behind the bristling branches, Kairos could see a wide open space containing an array of thermal features. Gorgeous blue-green ponds encrusted with knobby rock formations stood in the middle, surrounded by a moist but rocky soil bedding that seemed to grow only stubby, course grass.
Suddenly Kairos’ ears perked. A feminine laugh. A splash. Playful pup-like giggles. Now this caught Kairos’ attention. He moved silently forward, fully aware that he was passing into Southern territory as his nose detected old markings Mors had made. With a flick of a switch, Kairos was gone.
At least, one couldn’t see him. He was invisible now, a power that not only came in handy, but was fun to use. Looking down at where his paws should be, Kairos saw only rock and dirt. If you’d been able to see his brown eyes, they would be gleaming with mischief and wolfish laughter. Moving through the trees that blocked his view, the female finally came into sight. Kairos first noticed her dark, rich pelt, which was rather attractive. I mean, he’d seen better, but she wasn’t bad-looking at all.
Kairos slipped around a pond’s rim, daintily tip-toeing toward the she-wolf as she played with the bugs dancing around her head. She seemed like a fun-loving wolf, at least at the moment. He’d see what happened when he pulled his little trick on her. Kairos came consistently nearer, which was difficult with a moving target like she. But eventually he managed to get within feet of her, luckily without disturbing any rocks or twigs that may betray his presence.
He took in a deep breath, and then said in his deepest and most solemn voice, “I, your father, have come back from the abyss with a message.” He bit back a huff of laughter. Now this was quite the joke.

As she danced around In the footsteps of her imaginations and memory. She gradually began stepping towards the shallow end, with no knowledge of it being there. Something caught her brilliant orange eyes. Some of the fireflies swayed with caution. Gut she shrugged it off, thinking it was only the wind. She began to chase her tail, making more waves. Then... Something spoke. The instant she heard the voice, she jumped back. A millisecond after, she screamed as her foot slipped. She had plunged into the black water.
She flailed around under the surface of the water. She couldn't tell which way was up, or down.... Or left or right. She began to panic. But she held onto her breath as much as she could.
Meanwhile on the surface of the water. The fireflies swarmed in alarm as the wolf fell under the water. Bubbles fizzes on the surface. It was from her swinging her legs around wildly. Suddenly, the bubbles stopped. The waves crashed on the shore of the pond. Ped

“Ah, no!” Kairos yelped, his illusion vanishing to reveal a horrified-looking wolf. He certainly hadn’t meant to drown the poor thing, and his mind quickly jumped ahead, whirling with appalling questions. What if he killed her? Would he be banned from the packs forever? Would Mors think him a murderer? What if she had family that needed her?
He snapped out of his reverie, leaping forward without a second thought and plunging into the luke-warm water. Kairos dove underneath the surface, fighting to see through a wall of swirling mud and fleeing bubbles. Then he caught a glimpse of dark movement; he caught sight of a leg, then the haunches, and finally her whole figure was revealed. Kairos struck out towards her, alarmed to see that she was hardly moving. He clamped his teeth around her nearest leg, and began to slowly haul her to the surface. For the first several seconds Kairos almost thought he wouldn’t be able to make it, for she was so heavy. But he gained momentum, and paddled as hard as he could toward the sun.
It was hard work, and every strained movement Kairos made drained his body of oxygen. Only halfway up and his lungs were already aching for air. But he was determined to save the she-wolf, and pushed through the pain that was building in his chest. Just as he thought his heart and lungs were about to burst, his head pushed through the last bit of water.
Kairos took in a deep breath to quickly, inhaling a bit of water that forced him to let go of the wolf’s leg and cough in heaving spasms. After catch his breath he took hold of her again, this time on her wet scruff. Kairos then proceeded to haul her to the edge, hoping that his worst fears would not come true.

As much as she tried, she could feel her lungs ache. Then she couldn't take it anymore. The wolfs body began to grow limp. Then her mind began to slip into an semi conscious state. The fireflies above swarmed in irritation as the water was splashed and interrupted. Usually, they wouldn't have to deal with this sort of chaotic action during this time. Usually it was just the wolf dancing around in the water. When the surface of the water began to settle with little movement and air bubbles, they went back to their peaceful bouncing in the air.
She felt something grab onto her leg. She didn't move, she couldn't move. More importantly, she didn't care. Every few seconds she took in small breaths, allowing water to access her lungs been more than they already had. She could feel her life slipping. Or maybe she could feel her leg slipping from the creatures mouth. Shortly after, she felt a tug on her scruff. Then she felt the surfacing of water.
Her mind slowly began to piece the puzzle. But her body was lagging.

Kairos staggered to the pond’s shore, soaking wet, panting as if he’d just ran fifty miles without stopping. He was exhausted, but when he turned to look at the bedraggled she-wolf, he could see that she was, too. An anxious whine formed in Kairos’ throat, as he cautiously sniffed the female. She remained motionless, still as death, and Kairos feared that she could not be revived. But he would try.
Kairos settled down next to the she-wolf, resting his head on her side. He closed his worried brown eyes, and entered the part of his mind that stored his healing power. Kairos fed this lifeblood into the she-wolf’s body, his own figure becoming weaker and weaker as his energy slipped away into the female. Kairos gave his all, knowing that if the wolf was dead all his work would go to waste. But he clung on tight to that small hope that whispered in his ear, urging him on, telling him that she had not passed yet.
The next thing Kairos knew the feeling was fading from his limbs, his head was racked by lightheaded dizziness, and sleep overwhelmed him like a flood. Kairos did not fight it, and as the sun sunk beneath the horizon to light another world, he fell into an exhausted, deep sleep.

She began to feel some sort of energy pour into her. She ould feel her body regaining strength. "what is going on?" her thoughts began to function. Then. She coughed. She began to cough up water. It flowed out each time she put the pressure on her lungs. Her began to move, then she opened her eyes. She oifted her head to survery her surroundings.
Her eyes fell upon another wolf. Tis must've been why she fell. She prodded his muzzle with her nose. Alarm went through her body. "You were why I fell in the water... But you also saved me..." she whispered. He wasnt moving, she wasn't sure what to do. She took ahold of his scruff and tried to drag him to the camp. She tufted and tufted, but only got as far as half a foot. Her body was still weak. She gave up and her legs collapses from the pulling. Her body wasn't completely ready for this.
She looked back and forth, panicking. She was afraid to leave him alone, but she wanted to get help. She prodded her nose on his chin again, then put her head by his chest. There was a beat. But it was faint. She tugged him to where he was laying on his side with his mouth open a away from the water, maybe the water could escape. The water was in his lungs, so putting a little pressure would get rid of it, right? She pushed her head down on his chest, hoping it would help. After a few pushes, she looked down at him. Her eyes was full of worry. All she hopped is that her hero would open his eyes to her, to say he was still alive.

Kairos felt something warm on his muzzle. His eyelids flickered open, and he blinked up at the she-wolf’s worried face. Kairos took in a quick breath and tried to stand, but his legs trembled and he landed in a crumpled heap on the ground. I must look pathetic, he thought, embarassed to be so helpless in front of the she-wolf. “You alright?” Kairos asked her in a hoarse voice. He managed to sit up with a groan, feeling more tired than anything else.
Kairos stole a glance at the female beside him, his mind reeling back to the moments before he had slipped into unconciousness. She had looked dead. Now, looking at her disheveled and weary form, Kairos was overtaken by a wave of sweet relief and happiness. She was as weak as he was, but she was alive.
Now a twinge of guilt went through Kairos’ stomach. “Listen, I’m sorry I scared you,” he said in apology, his shame obvious on his pale face. Suddenly he chuckled softly, saying, “Maybe this’ll teach me not to play such nasty tricks.” This proved that Kairos couldn’t help but throw some humor into the oddest of circumstances. Giving his head a quick shake to rid his ears of water, Kairos noticed that he was not where he had fallen asleep. Warmth spread through his fur as he realized the female must’ve tried to help him.
Kairos then suddenly realized that it was dark, and night’s cool chill was spreading over the basin. His fur was still far from dry, and he felt shiver go down his spine from the cold. Kairos did his best to hide his worry as he turned his attention back to the she-wolf. “Do you think you can make it back to the pack?” If it was a good distance away, Kairos doubted that they would make it, and the thought of spending the night freezing made him feel even more tired.

She felt her heart slowly beat as the anticipation of a lively reaction would form. A blink, a cough, a limb movement, anything. She needed to make sure he was okay. To make sure he was still alive. She nearly gave up as the wait for him to respond took time. But something caught her eyes before he closed her eyes in defeat. He blinked. He was okay. A sigh of relief escaped her mouth. She had saved the one who saved her.
He spoked about how he shouldn't do that sort of trickery any more and she smiled, "well, at least don't scare a wolf chasing bugs in a pond..." she chuckled. She also felt slightly embarrassed that some was watching her as she relived her memories as a pup. She sat back from standing over him. She shook her head, "it's fine... Don't worry about it" she finished up.
The summer air felt good through her fur, but apparently not through his. They were both soaking wet from the water. And it wasn't best that they stayed I'm the open. He spoke about getting back to camp. But she didn't even think about going back to there. As she doesn't sleep there. She cleared her throat, "I actually don't sleep with the other pack wolves... I sleep on the endue of the forest by the basin..." she turned her head to where her den was. It was made of bushes and vines. It felt like a good home for her. She didn't like sleeping with everyone else. So she always slept distant from the others.

The she-wolf seemed unnaturally warm, while Kairos shivered and shook from cold. Hmph, maybe I’m just being a wimp, he thought to himself, doing his best to still his trembling limbs. But if he wasn’t freezing, he’d probably be asleep already; Kairos fought to keep his eyelids open. He was suffering from the aftermath of draining his energy through the healing, and knew that a good night’s rest would be the only remedy to his exhaustion.
At the news that the female’s den was not far away, Kairos’ ears pricked. This was better than he thought; now he didn’t have to walk miles to find safety and warmth, and he could introduce himself to Mors looking a bit more… presentable. “Lead the way!” Kairos said, coming to a wobbly stand. He started forward, mainly to get his muscles warmed up and working. Looking back at the she-wolf, he asked, “You don’t mind if I spend the night, do you?” Suddenly Kairos realized that she didn’t even know his name, nor he hers. Now that just wouldn’t do. “By the way, my name is Kairos,” he volunteered, admittedly eager to know her own title.

She noticed that his spirit lifted when she spoke of her den that was near by. She smiled, but at the same time se felt indifferent. She knew he was an outcast wolf. But it seems like he knew where he was going, and it seemed like he had a purpose as to why he was there. She guessed that one stay won't kill her. But if Mors were to ask about, she would have to be honest. Who knows, maybe he is wanting to join the pack. But whatever he wanted, she could tell he was a good wolf. And she would already be able to like him if he were to actually join. But the reality of an outcast wolf passing through to join a pack is quiet rare now and days.
He asked her about staying the night with her in her den. And he mentioned his name. Kiaros... She made sure the name would stick. She smiled, "it is fine you stay with me for the night, I can tell that you are not liking the cold weather. And I would be happy to give the wolf that saved me some shelter..." she bowed head and started walking away from the basin area to her den. It was close so she didn't worry. She had remembered that he mentioned his name to her. It would be unfair for her to leave her name a mystery, so she looked back, "Corra... Nice to meet you"
Once they had gotten on the outskirts of the basin and into the foot of the forest, she followed a trail that she had made for herself. Once taking a left and a right, she found it. It didn't look like much. There were large trees surrounding the forest floor, but two bushes were in between the trees she was looking at. It was quiet hidden, and she liked it. She pushed her way through the bushes, and now she was home. It didn't look like much on the outside, but once inside it was roomy. You could probably fit three medium sized wolves in there. The top of the den was covered in leaves, she had placed a large amount of sticks and twigs across the bushes. And over time, the leaves fell on top; being caught by the sticks and twigs, making her a self made roof. It's not fully covered quiet yet, but getting there. You can lo through the cracks to see the few stars and parts of the moon. In side the den were a couple large rabbits she had caught earlier. Always keep some prey, just incase you wast time the next day. She lived by that rule. She laid down on a small dug out ditch, and it looked quiet used and form to her body shape as she slept in it over time. Now she just waited for the new wolf to make his way in.

Corra. Good to know. Kairos mulled the name over in his mind so that he wouldn't forget (this had always been a weak point for him), as he shuffled behind the she-wolf. They zig-zagged through the forest, leaving the Basin's thermal ponds behind. He was tiring out quickly, and was relieved when Corra slipped into her den. It was neatly made, but at the time Kairos could've cared less about the architectural design as he was about ready to keel over. Squeezing into the den, Kairos took it all in with a quick glance. It was basically as cold as it was outside in there, but it kept out any stray drafts and would probably warm up quickly with the two wolves' combined body heat.
Kairos was sinking down to get some much-needed rest when he felt something brush his fur. Bouncing up again, he found that he'd almost laid down on two cottontail rabbits. Dead, of course. Kairos moved a couple feet back to the end of the den and landed in a crumpled heap. Thinking drowsily about the rabbits, he worried that their delightful smell would attract hungry predators. "Isn't it dangerous to leave those in here?" he asked, looking at the rabbits so that Corra would know what he was talking about. As night caved in, and Kairos' mind slipped into a groggy stupor, the thought of a bear disturbing their night was... less than appealing.

As he made his way in, she kept a giggle to herself. He looked rather large for her den, but at least he was able to fit. She noticed hew as about to lay down on the prey she had caught a while ago. He asked her a question about them, but she shook her head, "since I hunt so close to my den, I'm usually able to smell the predators before they find it... I only bring things here when the activities with the pack are done..." she simply explained. "As for night time? I wake up several times, and I snack on them... usually two hares get me through the night..." she shyly explained. As most wolves don't usually care for a midnight snack.
She could tell that the wolf was tired now. He was exhausted from their encounter moments before. She was as well, but he mind was racing with questions. By the look of his tired appearance, she might have to wait until morning. When they go to the main pack, or if he parts ways and continues on as an outcast wolf. She hoped he would stick around. For the reasons? She wasn't sure. She guessed it was from her high curiosity as of why he came here.

Corra said something about two hares getting her through the night. Kairos was admittedly shocked by that, for two such hares would last him all day. Maybe southern pack wolves are more pampered, he thought. After all, he had spent the last year or so of his life as an outcast, where every mouthful was valuable, and you had to eat fast lest some other wolf steal your catch. Still, two hares seemed an excessive snack. What does she eat for breakfast, a whole deer? Kairos couldn’t help but chuckle at that. All at once a sudden, overwhelming tiredness washed over him, and within moments he drifted off into much-needed sleep.
Kairos spent the night dreaming about a dark she-wolf with gleaming orange eyes.
Morning dawned. Kairos opened his eyes and was at first startled, but after a few moments he remembered where he was. He peered out from the cracks in the den, wincing at the early sunlight. Kairos’ pelt was dry and he was warm; the den had heated up quite nicely, in fact. He opened his jaws and yawned, his pink tongue stretching out between his pale fangs. As his mouth snapped together again, he glanced over at Cora. Today would be the day that he integrated himself into the pack. Today would be the day he saw his brother Mors, for the first time in years. But although he should be excited about such things, he found his mind drifting to Corra. It was strange, no she-wolf had caught his attention like this before. And you know what? Kairos didn’t mind, not one bit.

Her legs twitched in her sleep. She had a dream about walking on the pond she nearly drowned in early that night. In her dream, she blended in with the blacks of the water. As she tresses in circles, a white wolf rippled in the water as she took a step. She stopped and looked in the water. The wolf rose up out of the water. And then he was standing there with her. A large gust of wind swirled around them. She looked back and forth frantically. And when she looked back, the wolf swirled away. As his body broke down, the particles turned into snow. Then she slipped under the water. Submerged in the black hole.
She woke up panting. Then she saw the wolf from her dream laying before her. Wait a second... It was Kiaros. She shook her head. "Uhm... Good morning?" she nervously smiled, "sleep well?" she added. Shortly after a yawn followed. The morning yawn that would tell her the day had now started and the night had ended.
She stood up and took a moment to stretch. Her tail wagged in the air and her legs stretched out before her. The best stretch is always a morning stretch.
