I don't want to seem like I'm taking control of the entire forum, (D8!) but I did want to put this out there. c: Feel free to use, or not use any of these ideas, kay? It's just how I see things, and how I've speculated.
Yellowstone weather IS unpredictable, but the wolves have evolved ways around freezing to death, such as huddling together in the dens for warmth, (like a normal wolf) and some unconventional ways as well- like using a wolf (Such as Vulkan) with fire energy.
The land itself is always changing. Yellowstone is built on top of a 'super volcano' (This stuff's real! Look it up!) so sometimes land will be a couple of inches higher one day, and a couple of inches lower the next. (THAT PART, I'm not sure if it's true.)
The wolves don't really care much for exploring, and are more content to stay in one place, only moving when food is scarce, or when alliances and rivalries become too risky. On the rare occasion a wolf does decide to leave a pack, they are more likely to travel far, for whatever reason.
