Appearance:Ayria is a large-ish, long-tailed, stocky she-wolf. Her fur - primarily silver with a white underside and white stocking markings - covers many minor and moderate scars along her whole body, which can occasionally be seen when the fur is ruffled by the wind or otherwise displaced. Some scars - a row of gashes across the top of her muzzle and similar marks on her shoulders - are always visible, at least when her wings aren't obscuring the view of the latter. Nearly half of her right ear is missing, and much of the remainder is in shreds. Her long legs end in large paws that are often covered in dirt. Her eyes were originally a soft amber/gold color but have recently turned pale lavender.
Temperament:In general, Ayria's a protective, caring soul. Being as young as she is, she hasn't quite outgrown her puppyhood playfulness, but she usually knows when to put fun and games aside in favor of her duty to the pack. She cares deeply about her packmates and hates to see them sad or in danger. She will go out of her way to protect those she cares about, either from a physical threat or their internal problems. As for trust, she gives everyone a chance, preferring to assume the best of others. Once the trust is broken, however, it's nearly impossible to regain.
Ayria doesn't like fighting, but she won't shy away from it if there's no peaceful solution to the situation, or if someone attacks a packmate. Should her packmates be in danger, she will do everything she can to keep them safe.
The Far Past:
Ayria was born to the alpha pair of a large pack not terribly far from Yellowstone, and lived a happy life playing with her siblings and being encouraged and scolded by her parents in fairly equal measure. It's actually a rather typical and boring part of her life, so let's skip ahead a bit.
As they grew older, she and her siblings (two brothers and two sisters) began to spar with each other, forming a hierarchy between them. The largest of her sisters was found to be the strongest and became the leader of the litter, and she chose one of their brothers as her second-in-command. The alphas took notice of this and began apprenticing her as their heir while, while the beta watched over the chosen brother, teaching him everything he knew. The litter began to grow apart at that point, and Ayria found herself missing the closeness she once shared with all her siblings, but the ache dulled as she formed a bond with Lyssene, one of her packmates that was only a few seasons older than herself.
Once she was of age, Ayria began following Lyssene and the other pack members on their hunts, and Lyssene taught her everything she herself knew on how to take down various types of prey and how to avoid detection while sneaking up on her target. She made her share of mistakes, one of which - a fight with a lynx - earned her the scars on her muzzle - but she learned quickly enough under Lyssene's guidance and became a valuable member of the pack. She and Lyssene grew particularly close in that time, doing everything together and even sharing the same sleeping spot. She would have been happy to have that life forever...
...But, of course, this was not to last. As time went on, prey grew scarce. The alphas tried to hold the pack together, but - slowly - it shrank as other wolves wandered off to find new homes. This included Lyssene, who snuck out at night and was never seen again. Ayria was devastated at the loss, but her grief was cut short in favor of concern for the rest of the pack. The wolves were getting skinny due to lack of prey, and it was clear that the pack as it was would not survive.
It took several nights of despair and lonely thoughts to make Ayria decide to leave the pack. Mindful of what she was doing, she left late one night while the others slept, going as far and as fast as her legs and wings would carry her before she could change her mind. As night turned into morning, she began to slow, and - finally - collapse.
She awoke sometime later to the sight of an elderly she-wolf named Ynta. The she-wolf was a loner, just like her now, and the two struck up a fast friendship. Ynta was a healer and an animal whisperer- the secret to her still being alive at her age with no pack to help her - and she taught these abilities to Ayria. Ayria was fascinated with the concepts of being able to heal and communicate with animals, and it didn't take long for her to master the basics. The two were almost a pack, spending each moment together teaching learning, laughing, and making each day the best day of their lives.
One night, Ayria awoke to sharp yelps nearby. A cougar had found the wolves' den and had chosen Ynta as its next meal. The elder wolf was bleeding from several places on her body and limping in two legs. Ayria let out a fierce howl and rushed at the cougar, but the large cat was faster and jumped behind Ayria, and then on top of her, leaving the gashes in her shoulder. It tried to clamp its jaws on her head, but Ynta intervened and its aim was thrown off, taking a piece of the young wolf's ear instead. Shaking off her injuries as best she could, Ayria threw herself at the cougar, her saber teeth ripping into its neck , ripping away its life. In pain but victorious, she turned to her friend.
Sadly, Ynta had succumbed to her injuries, spending the strength that might have saved her on ensuring Ayria's survival.
Ayria spent the next several days in mourning. For the first time since meeting Ynta, depression had taken over, and she almost wished the cougar had killed her. Then, one night, she dreamt of a stream in the middle of a beautiful forest. Ynta was there, looking younger and stronger than Ayria thought possible. The Ynta in her dream told her that she had no need to be sad, that she was at peace and that she was proud to have saving Ayria's life as her last act. She then told her that she needed to move on, find a new pack, and live her life, and that she knew that Ayria would make her and everyone she knew proud one day.
Ayria woke up, feeling simultaneously sad and at peace with what had happened. She kept all her wounds from the battle - something to remember Ynta by - and set off, eventually encountering the Southern pack.
