INDIGO Parting her dark muzzle, Indy received a quick image of her surroundings. She saw a part of the river and turned to her left to avoid blundering into it. Then she continued on her way, the entire time using her echolocation and her enhanced hearing to make sure no one could sneak up on her as she made her way through the Hayden Valley. Soon she noticed the scents of the claimance, and paused. She stood calmly in the open, the scents of the spring flowers. Indigo had a feeling that she could live peacefully here in this packland. She was quiet a moment longer and then she raised her muzzle to the air. Parting her jaws again, Indigo, sent a howl, loud and non-threatening into the sky, calling for the leaders to ask them for their acceptance into their pack. Once her howl had faded into the distance, Indigo dropped her skull back down again and stood calmly in the valley grasses. The sounds of the river, the songs of the birds, the snorts and calls of the bison and elk and other prey were playing havoc in her mind. Indigo liked it. She shook her pelt and then sat upon the buffalo grass beneath her paws. This was beginning to feel like…home, despite the absence of her previous family and loves. She dosed a little always alert to her surroundings. Words~247 Speaking Listening Thoughts

♦"A peaceful afternoon, gone within seconds..." Xane&Zafera.♦ [/i] The large male had been resting from a few days work amongst his pack. With spring in order he prepared for hunts and the game of survival. It was easy this time of year with all the new born prey walking around. And thankfully his numbers have taken a sharp rise once the harsh winter when nearly every member had disappeared. He was glad and finally able to relax a little knowing his pack numbers are stable. And maybe, they would take an even larger rise. That is if renaissance would be up for it.
Next to him was his fern green companion. A young, but growing female. She wasn't exactly sleeping like he was. She was more or less, surveying her surroundings. She was laying down next to him, their backs touching. But he head was propped up. Unlike him, she had gotten plenty of rest while he worked nonstop. She figured he could use a lookout while he carelessly napped. She sniffed the ground, knowing what it would smell like. The new members of the pack had lightly thrown her off.
She began to lay her head down, only for a little while. But the howl that rang through the forest had shot her head back up. It didn't sound like a threat, but it was still something she should investigate. She stood up and looked back as he huffed deeply in his sleep. She didn't want to take him, but he would like to know what is going on. Okay, it was something they should investigate. She prodded him with her paw, "wakey wakey..." she lightly spoke. The alpha shuddered in his sleep then adroitly opened his eyes, "this better be good Zafera..."
They had begun walking towns the valley. She was certian she heard it from there. "I apologize for waking you, Xane. But I felt it would be better. Since this wolf is a loner..." her ears were close to her head. He looked towards the ground, then shook his head. He always thought of her as the pup that came into his life. It was hard accepting her growth. He turned his attention towards her actual height, which was near to his shoulder. "I appreciate it... But all I want is my sleep!" he whined. She laughed lightly, as he had sounded like a pup wanting their nap. He laughed as she did. The two had grown into such an unsplitable pair, only she could talk to him like he was barely learning the ropes of leadership
They quickly reached the valley. And just as suspected, they noticed their strange visitor. A white wolf sat in the valley. "I wonder what she wants?" she shortly asked after smelling the air. The wolf smelled of feminine odor. He nodded his head from side to side, as of to mimic a shrug. "Only one way to find out..." then he began walking closer.
Finally stopping with a little over eight feet away, they stood tall. "What business do you have wandering into western territory?" he boldly spoke. His voice was deep, it obtained the characteristics of how an alpha should speak. She stood next to him. Waiting for their visitor to speak.

It wasn’t long until Indigo heard the sounds of approach, four…no…eight paws? Indigo swiveled her head in the direction of the approach. Echolocating her surroundings, she found the Alpha and another creature beside him. Then her auds swiveled forward as the Alpha spoke, What business do you have wandering into western territory? Indigo stood up and dipped her head low in respect as she answered the Alpha’s question, “Pardon my intrusion great sir. I am known as Indigo, Indy to my friends. I was getting to know my surroundings and I feel that it is time I find myself a home. Perhaps you will accept me to your ranks?” Indy said and then, just because she sensed an unsettling air she went on alert, her frame becoming rigid and taking on her past rank’s form, those of a Beta. “Not to alarm you or anything, but about three-hundred yards to our left, is a female grizzly and her cubs. Perhaps we should move away so she does not perceive us as a threat to her cubs.” Indy said and stepped away from the grizzly and cubs and moved down the river, still retaining her Beta form. Then, when she was safely away from the grizzly, Indigo became slightly submissive once more. She tipped her auds forward and waited to see if the Alpha and his, well, companion she guessed had taken her hint and followed with her. Indy had dealt with grizzlies and cubs before and it was not a pleasant memory, she avoided the confrontations as much as she good. Shaking her frame again, her necklace and bracelet made a little noise before settling back where they had settled…before. Smiling to herself, Indy echolocated her surroundings again and satisfied they were safe, she tilted her auds forward and back and then settled them in the Alpha’s direction waiting.

♦"Time for an evaluation..." Xane&Zafera.♦ [/i] She sat next to him as she waited for the female to return his question. The wolf was white. Which was relatively standard for these mixes of wolf packs around here. But what caught them off guard was how she opened her mouth to turn herself around. When she was facing them, they both noticed it. Her eyes are different. They were clouded over, not like the usual clear wolves eyes. She was blind. That was unusual to find. Especially with larger enemies doubling in this season.
They took a couple seconds to register that she had already answered him. He shook his head lightly. It seemed she wished to join their pack. There had been a lot of new additions lately. He opened his mouth to speak but she abruptly interested him. Her stance changed from relaxed to lightly defensive, she mentioned bears being around the area. She suggested they move along. If she really was wishing to join, then maybe this would be a useful skill for the pack. It seemed her hearing was phenomenal.
After they moved into the forest away from the openings, she returned to a submissive stance. At least there wasn't a confrontation to have her return that way. He carried on their conversation. Zafera herself found it strange that the wolf used bat-like abilities to make her way around, but if she were blind, she would be thankful she had the ability to. Xane smiled at her, as he could tell she was curious about the same thing. He nudged her shoulder for her to polite. 'Not like she can see me anyway...' she rudely thought to herself. She frowned at her actions. She was never like this.
He turned his attention to her, "You said your name was... Indigo?" he restated, trying to get to know the female. So far she seemed pack material. He appreciated her warning them from earlier. As he, himself, has had experience with bears and their cubs. "Where have you traveled from?" he continued to ask.

Indy sat calmly in the safety of a few trees, and then her auds picked up the male’s words again, she was happy the pair had followed her away from the grizzly and cubs You said your name was...Indigo? Where have you traveled from? Indy smiled and dipped her head as she responded, “Correct sir. I hail from a land far to the North of here, from a pack in which I was Beta female. I had a litter of three pups, of which 2 were still born and one died the day after its birth. I couldn’t handle to sorrow and I couldn’t accept the affections of my…friend, so I had to leave the pack and his company, to try to…move on.”
Indy told him and then looked upward into the air to prevent her tears from slipping from her eyes and showing on her white pelt. When she was sure she was composed again, Indy looked back toward the Alpha and his…companion and smiled again. Indy did want to get away from her past, and she hoped that here, here in this land her luck would change, she’d be able to fall in love, help run a pack, and have a family…one that would actually…survive. With this bright possibility, Indy’s smile was freshly renewed and she returned all of her attention to the pair before her.

♦"Another easy evaluation done!" Xane&Zafera.♦ She she explained her history, zafera listened deeply. She felt sorry for the wolf. She had a wonderful home and a life. But it was taken away with the burden of her liters death. She wondered how her... "friend" had taken her leaving the pack. She didn't blame her for leaving. In fact, she might have done the same thing. But she wouldn't be able to console her from experience. As she was only a year old herself. She hasn't been able to experience love of courtship or motherhood.
For Xane, this struck him hard. He knew what it was like to leave a loved one behind. He had to do that in his old pack from years ago. He missed her from time to time. But he was forced to leave. He had to leave her behind. He knew she would have escaped. He knew she was strong enough to survive. But he just didn't know where she as at. He felt where she was coming from.
He nodded, he appreciated her going back into her painful history. But what struck him was why she even left. If she had support from where she was at. And a loved one by herself. Why would she leave the familiar? He couldn't do that to himself. "Why would you just leave loved ones?" he wanted to get inside her reasonings for leaving. "It's true, you were in a depression. But if loved ones were there to help you... Why leave?" no wolf could blame her for why she was upset. Death of a litter is always difficult to bare. As he saw this several times in his old pack.
Zafera on the other hand sternly shot a look at him. "I'm sure she will explain herself over time..." her voice was agitated. "She left for a reason and doesn't want to recap herself now..." she stood up to the alpha. She smiled; knowing she could see, and made her way next to the white wolf. "How about a nights rest? And some food?" she was always the hospitable one between renaissance and xane put together. Even if she was just. Regular pack mate herself. But only she could bypass Xanes'' words. And he was always fine with it. She had a good head on her shoulder.
She made sure their pelts were lightly brushed against each other. "We have some food left over from small creatures from the day before. We eat well here! So we don't mind!" she felt her friendly self returning. "Zafera, please-" he muttered but was quickly interrupted. "Ah! We never introduced ourselves. My name is zafera! I'm the... Adopted daughter of your new alpha. That's Xane" she laughed lightly. He put his ears back, "she is usually a spunky character in this pack..." he added in. But alas, he couldn't take away that hospitality, he was the more hospitable pack in the forest.
"Well, indigo... I guess all I can say now is welcome to the Western pack. Shall we make our way to the pack clearing?"

Indy listened as the Alpha’s words drifted toward her again, Why would you just leave loved ones? It's true, you were in a depression. But if loved ones were there to help you... Why leave? Indy lowered her head and was about to answer when a feminine voice came into her listening auds, I'm sure she will explain herself over time...She left for a reason and doesn't want to recap herself now...How about a nights rest? And some food? Indy felt a chuckle bubble up, but answered once her laughter subsided, “Thank you young lady, but I really don’t mind sharing my reasoning, in fact I will in a few moments here, although I really could go for some food and a comfortable spot to lay down.” Then she felt the other female’s fur brush against hers and smiled as she spoke again, We have some food left over from small creatures from the day before. We eat well here! So we don't mind! Again Indy chuckled softly as the Alpha’s voice rang clear again, Zafera, please- Indy tilted her head at the name and then the feminine words were back, Ah! We never introduced ourselves. My name is zafera! I'm the... Adopted daughter of your new alpha. That's Xane. Indy smiled and spoke again, “Pleasure to meet you Xane and Zafera.” Then she got to her paws as Xane’s voice rang out again in continuation of his previous statement.
she is usually a spunky character in this pack...Well, Indigo...I guess all I can say now is welcome to the Western pack. Shall we make our way to the pack clearing? Indy smiled as she stepped toward her Alpha and smiled as she lightly touched his shoulder in proper pack greeting before answering, “Thank you for the welcome Xane. It is always good to have spunk in your pack. Let’s head that way and I shall tell you why I had to leave them behind.” She paused as she started forward before looking back toward the Alpha and explaining her reasons, “It’s quite simple really, as much as they were there for me, through my depression, it was making things so much worse on me…”
Indy paused to catch her breath and then continued on, “…but once I got away from their smothering trying to help me, I started feeling better. Sure the pain still hurts, but I’m doing much better now that I’m free of their attentions. And please, call me Indy…after all, we’re…family now.” She told him and Zafera and smiled. She was in a pack now, she had a new lease on life in a pack, she had new friends. Indy laughed allowed and then bounded forward a few steps, feeling much like a puppy again, although she was two and a half years old. She stopped and turned back to the pair. Life was good, it was new and wild. She waited for them to catch up, after all, she didn’t exactly know where she was going…yet.

♦"Time to get this ball rollin'" Xane&Zafera.♦ [/i] Zafera was usually the one to break seriousness amongst the pack. She was the youngest member, and she flaunted it. Xane on the other hand, always let her skate by with it. He knew he should be more strict with her. But that day will mostly likely never come. She is what helped him become the kind leader he is today. Before her, he was quiet and a little cold hearted after his move from his old pack and his love. But she lightened him up.
Indigo had happily accepted the invitation for the food and a nights rest. And thankfully she had already planned on explaining herself before she was interrupted by the fern green female. "And it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance as well, indigo... " he knew she would fit in just fine. After all his pack was mostly made of of stray wolves. Loners and rogues. He hadn't turned any wolf down. As, every canine deserves a chance. She is no exception.
She went on to explain her reason as to why she left. They seemed sound and reasonable. Who else would want to stay in a depression where it only gets worse. He didn't blame her, "I understand..." he merely responded. It was times like these where he had to try extra hard to not think about he past. And now he must do his best for her. She implied that they call her Indy. And that they were now a family. He enjoyed her newfound happiness. It's how a pack should be.
She bounded around in happiness. Zafera and Xane stood next to each other. They briefly glanced at each other, as they hadn't really seen a wolf this excited to join. But, alas, she was looking for a new home. And she found it. They eventually made their way to her, she didn't quiet know where she was going yet. But she will in time. "Come on, I'll have my tail brushed up against you, that way you won't get lost!" she thought it was a good idea. She hoped she wouldn't get offended. "And... I'll be on your other side..." he smiled as they both made their way to each side of her.

Indigo smiled as she listened to the Alpha speak, saying it was a pleasure to meet her as well and he understood her reason for leaving. Indy tossed her head upward with a laugh as Zafera spoke, Come on, I'll have my tail brushed up against you, that way you won't get lost! Indy smiled again as she felt the young female take up a position on her one side, then her auds picked up the Alpha’s voice to, And...I'll be on your other side... shaking her head, Indy smiled again as she felt the Alpha on her other side.
Immediately, Indy felt safe and secure and she knew that no matter what, this would be her place to stay, her new family. Perhaps here, in this pack too, Indy could find herself a new mate, and since she was a bit older now, perhaps if she did find a mate and had a litter with him, maybe this time, that litter would survive. She tilted her head again and parted her jaws, their path was clear for quite a distance. Indy smiled as the three of them, standing side by side moved on toward the pack clearing and then, Indy could start learning her home.

♦"Time for introductions" Xane&Zafera.♦ The walk to the clearing in the forest was quiet for a little while. Xane as concerned about how the pack would take to a new member. But if it was like any member before her, she would do fine. He wondered what renaissance would think, knowing that zafera had basically made the decision to take her in. Maybe he just wouldn't tell her that. Like him, she had also been rather busy with keeping the pack in order. And unlike him, he wasn't sure if she even noticed it was breeding season. In the back of his mind he was t sure if he was ready for it either. It would mean giving Sira up completely. Knowing he had fully moved on. He wondered if she already did the same.
Zafera could see the troubled look on his face. It was time for a subject change. "Indy! Let me tell you about our pack!" she cheerfully barked. She enjoyed keeping his mind off of Sira. Anything to keep his mind from the past. She has been doing it more lately, she guessed it was from the season change. He wasn't the only one who noticed it. After all, she was also a growing female. Young, but she was still able to understand the change in the air.
She smiled at their new packmate. "Renaissance is our alphess. She is so nice! And then we have wulfsige, zephy or zephyrine as far as her full name goes... I couldn't say it all the way when I was little... And then we have britt! She is an older member of the pack. Back when xane Mae it over a year ago!" she wagged her tail lightly. "Xane and I came from the same pack long ago... I wasn't born when he left... But he was friends with my father and mother... And when they died, I went out to search for him..." her voice trailed off. This couldn't help hi with not remembering the past. In fact it should only make it worse for him. How silly of her!
The three continued walking deeper into the forest. "I'm sure everyone will take kindly to you, Indy. This pack is made up of loners, really. We loose some we get more... You will be no different" he reassured.
