The maple scent of sap was growing stronger, wreathing in the air, adding a sweet tang to the fresh forest beyond. The trees there towered over the sparse undergrowth, and the bright, dawn sky turned to dusk under the cover of so many conifer and deciduous trees.
It was here the lone wolf stood, at the border of the fields and the forest, unsure of what next step to take. Go forward? Seek out Sky? Return home? The quiet thud of heartbeat against his chest rose, climbing to a heavy pound at every beat. He was growing anxious and confused. He had no wish to leave his only sister behind, abandon his family. They hadn't thought out their actions, they had just left, without a word.
How was their brother? Did he still live, or had they rid their pack from the monstrosity that was Wesley? Sky was all that he had left, and he had no idea what pack she had decided to join.
His eyes found the earth beneath his paws, needles from the pines adding texture to the soft soil. Had he made a mistake? Green eyes clamped together, heavy maw shaking. Best not to think that way, he scolded himself.
Magnitude stepped into the forest, breathing in all the sharp, tangy scents of the trees, the nutty smell of the earth, and teasing aromas of prey somewhere out there, beyond his sight.
But no wolf scent. If this was pack land, where were the wolves?

[bg=ORANGE] | [bg=GOLD]As the hum of cackling electricity left the air as the deed was done, Lysander was pleasantly pleased to have his meal now. He had only recently used his electricity power to subdue small prey, but he was quickly finding it a useful skill. He hoped that if Sira held a pack hunt that he might be able to use his little gift to stun larger prey. But those were high hopes and they were quickly dismissed by the large-eared male. Such dreams had no place in the practical wolf's head. Things in the East had been precarious, but the pack had survived, small as it was. The pack currently was Sira as Alphess, him, Hephaestus, and Saf- wait. Lysander looked up with neon green eyes and his prize in his mouth, a brown hare, as he realized he couldn't recall the last time he had seen Safo. It had been months and the Ethiopian Wolf had seen neither hide nor tail of the her. Lysander wondered somewhat sadly if her limp had helped done in her in. Now in a somewhat gloomy mood, the serious, analytical Liberator sniffed the spring air. Dampness in the air from recent rains, the earthy smell of the vegetation and soil, prey animals, an- hm?
That is a rather unfamiliar scent I must say... His eyes narrowing, he tightened his hold on his prey with his jaws and his tail began to wave behind him. Sniffing the headwind again, more information came to the wolf. Male, most definitely loner and right on the border. Seeking to join? Maybe, but Lysander was not willing to take risks, and in his head, it was better safe than sorry. He wouldn't attack unless given reason to do so obviously, but Lysander did have a habit of being suspicious of others. He was a very small wolf, even though he was large for his species, and if he happened to get into a fight, he'd did have a back-up in his array of powers. Might as well go check it out, as he didn't smell Sira in the area and it would take far to long to go and alert her. By that time they could have trouble. Going to the base of a thick tree near the meadow where he had been hunting, Lysander dug a shallow hole with his paws and placed the still-warm hare into the hole to save for later and hopefully protect it from conniving scavengers. He glared up at the turkey vultures and crows flying overhead as he thought that and he sighed to himself. Shaking his thinner coat, the reddish colored wolf activated his Invisibility, and for the time, no trace that a wolf had been there was left. In his Invisibility mode, Lysander trekked to the edges of the territory where the loner stood, seeming somewhat unsure to the Lysander. Flexing his cat-like claws, the male decided a direct approach was best. Stepping out from the trees where he had been, Lysander deactivated his Invisibility, and sighing, he lifted his head and stared square into the eyes of the wolf, green meeting green and he spoke to the male, echoing with a sound, steady voice, -"I see that you look a little unsure there. May I ask why you decided to come to Eastern lands today?" If you didn't know better, Lysander sounded rather sarcastic, perhaps teasing. Lysander did have a penchant for sarcasm, but he tried to hold it back, but this time, it slipped out a bit.
I just hope for both our sakes that this wolf just knows what he's getting into...

A paw step, shift of earth, and Mag was on alert. His ears pricked up and he couldn't help the quills on his neck rising, nervous and suspicous. He knew then he was no longer alone, but he didn't dare say the first words.
His scarlet fur warmed and he knew then that it had begun glowing, though he couldn't control it and command it to dim. It would be hard to see, but up close, it would be obvious. He licked his maw, attempting to add some moisture to his dry mouth.
Finally, a wolf showed itself. A red male, sandy red. He was small and his eyes were a sharp, mossy green, not unlike Magnitude's own gaze. His fur was thin and short, seemingly made for a much hotter climate, though he was here. His chest held cream patches that might seem appealing to females, giving him a more handsome pelt.
When the male spoke, he asked what Mag was doing here, that he looked a bit uncertain. He was right. Magnitude just about knew why he was here, but he wasn't too sure he wanted to do what he sought out.
It takes a lot for a wolf to just forget about their birthplace, their home, and all their kin to start out on their own. And even though Mag figured he would have had to anyway, this departure was far too premature. He wasn't ready. He was barely over the age of a pup, at two and a half years, just getting used to his adult body.
Still, there was no way he could simply turn around and go home. There wasn't a home to go back to. Not for Magnitude, anyway.
Dipping his scarlet head in respect and forcing his quills down, Magnitude spoke to the wolf of small proportions. "I have come looking for refuge in the pack that resides here. I'm called Magnitude, and I could be a useful defender for the pack."

[bg=ORANGE] | [bg=GOLD]Lysander analyzed the male in front of him as he finally stood in front of him. Green eyes and a reddish-type pelt. Most wolves were larger than him of course, but this one seemed to have some extra traits that marked him out. Spikes not so different from Sira's jutted out from this loner's neck and bright red glowing areas on the pelt in general. When the male's pelt brightened up, Lysander tensed, ready for an attack, but quickly eased himself to being simply alert as he spoke. From the way this Magnitude put it, he was simply seeking to join. He didn't seem to keen on being hostile either, more nervous if anything. As Lysander stood in front of the other male, his face and muzzle had no expression, but Lysander was at work contemplating what to do.
Perhaps... Deciding the male was no threat to him or the pack, Lysander spoke up again, -"Understood, but why here? Are you not from the area?" Lysander did not know of this Uuma's origins obviously, but Lysander couldn't help his suspicion at Magnitude's wanting to join probably the smallest pack in Yellowstone. He himself had come all the way from Africa, and barely survived the cross-oceanic journey on a rickety, abandoned boat, so he could sympathize with the male somewhat just in general, but Lysander's pack duties made him toughed his exterior. Lysander knew an addition to the pack would be good, but he did not have the authority to accept a new member. But Sira was most likely very far away, Lysander wasn't sure if she would hear his howl, but he somehow thought she probably could. He wouldn't however, mention Sira to the male unless he satisfied Lysander's questions first. Safety first, no matter how friendly one may be.
Well see...

He didn't raise his head, didn't dare. Without his head raised, he had the freedom to close his eyes and calm his heart down. He didn't want to stress himself out too much, for he feared the consequences of losing himself to the impending rage inside his mind. He didn't want to inflict pain that was not needed, and this wolf before him posed minimal to no threat to him. Fighting him would not be necessary.
Letting the pressure in his mind take over all thoughts for only a fraction of a second, Mag gave in to the black serenity behind his eye. "I come from a small pack many miles from here. This is the first pack I've come across on my travels." He dared to let his eyes meet the Uuma's before him. He had no idea how he looked right now.
He'd been traveling for moons, it seemed, and neither Sky or he stopped long enough to allow themselves to groom. He felt close to being ill with the amount of grime that seemed to weigh him down. Not even the heavy downpour of rain seemed capable of wiping away all the filth.
"Really I'm just seeking refuge, a place to call home. My journey here has been long and weary. If I meant any harm, I would have done something by now." Mag hoped his point might be influential, and that his pleas might be answered with the one he sought. If he could stay here, then he'd have to find another pack.

[bg=ORANGE] | [bg=GOLD]Normally Lysander wasn't a very sentimental or empathetic wolf, but he couldn't help but feel a little for the other wolf. In the way the wolf was standing, head lowered, pelt sticking up in places, eyes closed, the nervousness, all spoke that the wolf had been a loner for quite some time and gave validity to his story, in Lysander's opinion. With his questions answered, and the point made that the wolf could have already done harm if he wanted to, a fair point, though the wolf didn't look any bit dangerous to Lysander, he decided. Sighing and raising his head, his green eyes flashing seriously he spoke, -"Well then, look up if you will. You seem truthful, though I guess that is not for me to judge. I'm going to call the Alphess, Sira, here to speak with you, she will have the final say on whether you stay," Lysander nodded in affirmation, more for himself than for the other wolf, and drew back a step. Closing his emerald green eyes, he took a deep breath, filling his lungs, and raising his head to the sky, he let out a long, deep and loose call to Sira, signalling to her, if available, to come to his and Magnitude's current location.
Hopefully she will come...
