Well, this was a nice place.
Ayria hadn't stepped a single paw over the territory's borders since she arrived and joined the southern pack. There hadn't been a need before now. New wolves were coming into the pack, now, and if even a few more joined, there wouldn't be enough prey to go around. They were likely at their limit now, if she counted the pups that grew inside her. They would need more territory before spring, or they'd be inviting trouble. And so she found herself wandering into the unknown for the first time in what felt like forever. It was strange, and she felt uneasy, but it needed to be done. It needed to be done now, before her pregnancy limited her actions. Before any other packs formed or the western and eastern packs claimed all the land for themselves.
So she found herself at the falls, staring up at the wall of water. It really was a pretty sight, and the surrounding plantlife looked as healthy as the season permitted, promising herds of grazers ripe for hunting once warm weather returned to the park. The best thing about it, though, was that it lacked the scent of another pack. It was perfect and claimable. No doubt about it: this area would make a wonderful addition to their territory.
The alphess padded toward the water and bent down to drink. She would quench her thirst and then make the claim official...provided she wasn't run out of the area by another pack leader.

(Naama male)
He trotted through the quiet land, the rushing of water the dominant sound. He kept his ears pricked, listening for danger, but he wasn't too worried about anything right now. He hadn't scented a fresh wolf for a while now. His big gray paws crunched the old fall leaves. Soon snow would cover the ground, and the russet leaves would disappear until spring.
He felt a dryness in his throat, and decided to find water. He crept to the water fall, his eyes searching for a safe bank to drink from. He found one, but another wolf was already there. It would be a cold winter, and enduring it alone was never easy. He walked out into the open, his ears pricked and alert. He wagged his tail, and cocked his head to the side.
OOC: hmmm lets see what the southern alphess thinks of slaves:p

Her ears pricked, alert, and she stopped drinking to lift her head up and look around. She was hearing the crunch of leaves, which meant she was no longer alone. Hackles and tail were raised and teeth were bared, but then the scent came to her and she forced herself to relax. The being that had caught her attention was all by himself, and he was a naama. He wouldn't pose much of a threat to her, surely.
She watched the other wolf approach, his tail wagging and head to the side. Certainly not a threat. In her condition, a fight would be less than optimal, so as long as things could be peaceful, she would keep them that way.
"Hello!" She greeted the naama with a wag of her own tail. Her own race seemed to look down on what they referred to as "lower wolves", but Ayria was more curious than anything. She couldn't remember ever meeting a naama before, and had always wondered just how different the two races were.
OOC: Hehehe XD I'm not entirely sure if she knows.

The strange barks hit his ears with a clang. He immediately tensed up and fell into a crouch, ready to spring out of the way if she threatened him. His eyes were wide, a bit of fear mixed in, but mostly from curiosity. What was that noise the female made? He tried to mimic it, but the only noise to part from his vocal cords was a hoarse, throaty, wail like sound.
He crinkled his nose and sneezed, the attempt made his nose tingle. He looked at the other wolf questioningly. He lowered his head, and rubbed his rubbed his left ear on his left front leg to soothe and itch. He returned his gaze to the female, relaxing his muscles a bit, seeing the sway of her tail. She didn't look menacing, or like she was ready to attack. But even so, the strange barking kept him on guard, he didn't know what it could do to him.

The other wolf seemed to go on the defensive when she spoke, though there was no need. Perhaps he had never been spoken to before? Poor thing. She hadn't meant to scare him. That seemed to be precisely what she did, though.
But then he made a weird sound that could almost be called a wail. She blinked. Was he trying to respond? But his race had a hard time with words.
The male then sneezed, and Ayria giggled. "It is cold out here, isn't it?" She frowned slightly as she studied him. "Can you even understand speech? I'm so new to this." She looked around. No other wolves of either race seemed to be anywhere nearby. "Are you alone? The cold is far too harsh on a lone wolf. Perhaps you'd like to come with me?" She had no idea why she was talking when it was possible he didn't understand her, but she didn't know how to treat him any other way. "We at least have prey and a warm den. I just need to make my claim on this land and we can be off."

"Ayria?"
Kairos' call echoed across the water seconds before his tawny figure stepped through the frost-brushed foliage. He had accompanied his alphess on a quest for more territory, but had lost her for a moment when he stopped to investigate a bear mark on a tree. Yet now it seemed that Ayria was not alone.
Suspicious and at first cautious, Kairos' good-natured expression quickly dropped. Yet it was clear that the alphess was in no immediate danger, so Kairos decided to not bring any more tension to the situation. Keeping his fur flat and eyes bright, Kairos aimed to make a good impression on this newcomer. But upon inspection, it became painfully clear that this wolf before him was not of his race. It was a Naama. The word brought up different thoughts, mainly negative ones. Naamas were said to be no better than trash; dumb, unspeaking, ungifted, yet unpredictable and sometimes dangerous. Kairos was no idiot - much of the talk was true. And still his mouth remained shut on the controversial matter.
"Stop, Ayria," he whispered. "He can't understand you." Glancing to the side, Kairos took in the she-wolf's expression. Friendly, relaxed, almost naive. Oftentimes Kairos could forget, but this was just another example of Ayria's peaceful nature. It was something Kairos would never quite have.

He cocked his head to the right, and then to the left, and then back to the right, a funny little head dance as he listened to the noises the she-wolf made. He saw no threat about her, and he scented the soft warm smell of expected pups on her, but she didn't seem defensive about it. He lolled his tongue out to the side, and took a few slow steps forward, intent on properly greeting the she-wolf with a few sniffs and maybe a submissive lick on her muzzle.
Suddenly the bushes parted, and a new wolf stepped into the clearing. A suspicious male approached, which sent the light silvery gray male back on edge. He warily watched the new males movements, waiting for him to do something threatening.

It was so cute the way the naama reacted to her words. Not knowing if he could even determine her base meaning, she continued to speak. Both races had the same basic appearance if one ignored the various gifts her kind possessed, so it seemed natural to talk to him as if he was just like her. It wasn't until Kairos appeared and told her to stop that her prattling ended.
"Sorry." She looked between her packmate and the strange wolf. "I suppose he doesn't." She frowned. "He seems to be by himself. Have you scented any other naama around?" It would be good to know if this was indeed territory belonging to a naama pack, though she doubted it. She was also asking out of concern for the strange male. It broke her heart to see any loners at this time of year.

“No,” Kairos replied, although he did stop to test the air. Nothing. It was rather strange that this Naama male was roaming alone; perhaps the rest of his pack had been killed or taken by the Uuma race. It was a story that would most likely end in the death of the lone Naama, through either starvation or some other cruel fate. Yet Kairos only twitched his ear at the thought; this creature’s death admittedly meant nothing to him, no more than the death of a fox or a deer. Winter was harsh, and it would succeed in killing any animal unprepared for it.
“Look, Ayria, let’s just chase him off. Then he won’t bother us.” Kairos could practically hear Ayria’s heart breaking at the thought, but he maintained his position. If the alphess was actually thinking of taking this whelp in, he would only be a burden. And after getting fed, he’d more than likely just take off. In fact, that whole idea annoyed Kairos, and he was quite certain that Brock would feel the same.
WORD COUNT 218 NOTES Pathetic, I know. xD

| A certainly winged wolf landed behind her packmates and spoke in an extremely friendly tone, -"Hi Ayria! You to Kairos!" While not acting as excited or hyper as normal, Illyrian was still her chipper old self, and was as a friendly as any old Golden Retriever. Not that sh e knew any Golden Retrievers. Her already wispy, long coat was fluffed up and longer than normal due to the winter weather. Her long, feathered (as in fur) tail wagged erratically and very fast behind her, revealing her obviously happy nature. Her flying had been made much easier when she learned of some new abilities, she could walk on water now, and on air. She still enjoyed plain old flying still. Coming up beside her Beta and Alphess, the young Southerner just saw the Naama for the first time, and went crazy.
CUUUUTTTTTEEEEE LITTTTTLLLLLEEE WOOOOOLLLLFFFYYYYY!!!!!!!! Oh wait, he's not little, CUTE though! Stimulated the wolf's glassy, bright golden eyes widened, she started to pant and slobber and her tail was waving madly. Her wings folded tightly upon her back, her fur stood on end, blue and green flurries on her fur making her look like a clown almost at the moment. She screamed out at the Naama male, -"HIIIIIIIIIIII! Your adorable, you know that?" Her eyes calmed down just a little, and her tail slowed as she focused on in the male.
HEHE!

((XDDDD Oh Illyrian...you so silly!))
Kairos confirmed that the naama was alone and then suggested that they chase him off. She stared at him, mouth agape and eyes wide with shock. That was...well...no, no it wasn't. Her expression softened to one of sadness. He was right. She had already taken in several lone wolves just last season. Those were all of her own race, with enough cunning and ability to hunt and survive through the frigid season. The naama, however...
"I'm sorry, Kairos..." She sighed. "You're right, of course. We'll have to--"
Whatever she had been about to say was drowned out by Illyrian's rather...noticeable arrival. She flattened her ears as the other female shouted her greetings. Ayria liked her quite a lot, but even she would admit that Illyrian desperately needed to learn the art of subtlety.
"Hello, Illyrian." She wagged her tail in greeting. "Yes, he's quite adorable, but I'm afraid he must be on his way. We need this territory now, before the other packs have a chance to claim it and certainly before spring."

His fur stood on end, a bit spooked by the slobbery white wolfs approach, and the throaty barks that she released from her jaws. His curious eyes watched the other wolves, trying to decide what to do. Water and Companionship were the first things on his mind right now. Especially water. He started to walk, lightly and warily, around the wolves in a big half circle, trying to plant himself behind them and at the water where he could drink the cool flowing water.

Her beta had advised her to chase off the naama. She felt horrible about it, but if she was going to be alpha then she needed to learn when to be kind and when to be vicious, insteadof simply being kind all the time. Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself for what must be done.
The naama had tried circling the area in an attempt to sneak around them. She looked around, attempting and - after a moment - succeeding in locating him. She then rushed toward him, growling and snapping her jaws in an attempt to frighten him off.

He let out a sharp yelp, his legs automatically already carrying him away from the strange wolves. He didn't slow down until he was 30 yards away. He looked over his shoulder, to see if he was still being chased. His thin flanks were heaving. He looked over the female and the male, probably her mate, inhaling their scents deeply to remember them. He let out a hiss, and trotted off.
